To say I'm annoyed is putting it very f**king mildly I've had an iPhone 3GS for 2 years and have had no problems with it, until I updated to the latest operating system 5.0.1 around November/December. Since then, it's hit and miss as to whether I can send MMS and the last 3 weeks or so, I'm lucky if I can make or receive a phone call. 02 initially said there was work going on in the area regarding similar complaints and to wait until that took place, before they sent me a new sim card. I asked them to send me a new sim card anyway, which they did. After nothing changing and a lot of time searching about this fault, it seems it's an Apple problem with the latest operating system, which they seemingly refuse to recognise I've done a factory restore on the phone, but it just restores it to the newest operating system I've found files and info on the net with regards to rolling back to the previous 4.3 or 4.5 system, but I can't get it to work. I've tried the 'contact us' bit on Apples website, but you have to pay for technical advice ffs Seems loads of people are having this problem with the iPhone 4's and 4s's, as they run the newest operating system. Does anyone have any idea when the next update is out or an easier way of rolling back to the 4.3 operating system? I'm at my wits end now and have wasted loads of time trying to sort out a phone that should work as a f**king phone, like making and receiving calls, etc

Strange, my iPhone 4 was updated to iOS5 when it was still beta and then rolled on to 5.0 and 5.01 with no problems at all, my 4S hasn't put a foot wrong? But having searched it would appear that there are problems with iOS5 and the 3GS.
Have you got an apple store nearby? If not ring 0844 209 0611 it costs 5p per minute.
IF they try to charge you mention Sale of goods act and Limitation act and state that the item should be free of design flaws for 6 years.

No, I haven't got an Apple store close by I'll make a note of that number though, even though I'm fed up with ringing various companies 0844 numbers too Never mind Sale of Goods Act, they can't even keep to their own agreements I downloaded the new operating system based on being able to reset my phone to factory defaults if I wasn't happy, etc. Factory default on my phone is 4.3 or 4.5, but it won't reset to that, only the new OS5

I don't think Apple are signing versions 4.3.3 or 4.3.5 anymore. What this means is that you will never be able to downgrade from Ios5.
I've tried the DFU mode and it didn't work - that was the final straw of wasting my time last night, hence my thread. 02 have said there is a problem with the iPhones and MMS and it's basically a matter of waiting for Apples update We did do a network reset as well as other settings, but still no change PM sedicivalvole if you get no luck from them T I have, on Saturday I think, as he was the first person I thought of No reply yet though and I was getting impatient and more annoyed with the phone.

I just want ... the ability of making and receiving calls With the greatest of respect, that's not the iPhone's greatest strength But for 0844 and all other toll numbers, I always check out www.saynoto0870.com and look for alternative numbers (looks like you might be able to use an 0800 number, free from a landline at least)

Well, I've spoken to 02 again and they've said it's not a problem with their network. Rang Apple, what a waste of time As the phone is out of warranty and I wasn't prepared to pay £25 for 'proper' technical support, they weren't really interested. Told me to look on Apple support forum to see if anyone else has had the same problems - which I told them they had The best he told me was that as I've been restoring from a back up, the 'glitch' will still be there and put back on the phone when I restore it ffs. Only option is to restore the phone as a new one, which means losing my contacts, etc, unless I back everything up to iCloud, which I'd rather not do ffs My contract expires in a week, I may just go and buy a cheap £20 phone from Tesco

T.
Try doing a wipe of phone (don't restore from your backup). If that works, then try the iCloud restore or just enter contacts manually.
I have never tried the phone service but every time I have used the apple store they have really been good.
Good luck. 8-)

Cheers Mick. What you've said is pretty much what Apple said, but I shouldn't have to do it to be honest Unfortunately, there's no Apple store near me, although if there was, the store would be under seige now, until they sorted my phone Solution? I'll give you £10 for the phone Straight swap for yours then? I was going to drop my tariff down to a 12 month Simplicity tariff anyway, as I use no where near what my contract allows and could do with a cheaper monthly plan, but I'd end up keeping my iPhone. Tesco Mobile (02) have a Samsung Galaxy Ace, free on contract, which is only £15 a month for all the minutes, texts, internet I'll ever want or need. I know proccy loves a bit of Android, but does anyone have any thoughts or experiences with the Galaxy Ace? Looks a nice phone and has a better camera, a memory card, etc

Its a newer phone than the 3GS so will have more features. Gets a good Review here If you factor is selling your iPhone then you actually make a profit on the deal? (Presuming you get £100-£150 for the 3GS.)

I get an android phone supplied by work and it's not bad, in my opinion, I prefer the iPhone as I also have an iPad and it makes it easier to swap devices. All phone software has bugs/undocumented features, and while iTunes is handy for syncing, many prefer the android way as they hate iTunes. Inf act one of the things I really like with iOS 5 is the way it syncs without iTunes wirelessly. As for the negative reviews, unfortunately people with a problem tend to be more vocal than those who are happy. Oh and here's how to backup with android

Right ok, I've backed up my contacts to iCloud and it's showing all my contacts too, as it should. I've picked up the Galaxy and downloaded Kies, etc. When I select all my contacts from iCloud and click export vcard, Isavethem to my pc as a vcf file. When I try to transfer these contacts to the Galaxy, only contacts A-C are being transferred, with no sign of the other contacts. Until I know my contacts are safe in another place, I won't be doing the full restore on the iPhone. Anyone have any ideas? Ffs

All you snobby individuals. Never had a single problem with my Philips Diga... That's pretty much what my first mobile looked like and could have in fact, been that same model. £5 and your phone and we have a deal Funnily enough, this Galaxy Ace phone seems to be able to make and receive calls and texts too Good how technology is coming on these days Best bit is, you can also rename your phone, like you can with an iPhone, so instead of my phone being called Theresa's iPhone, it's now called Theresa's Ace, which I am I think I can confirm it's phone problem though, as 02 and Tesco Mobile are the same. I had both phones side by side today and as the iPhone was dropping and searching for signal and showing no service, the Galaxy stayed at full signal.

T - I upgraded to ios5 on both of my 3GS and have bad no issue. Bit of slow running and slightly less battery life but overall all improvements. I have heard of other 02 users experiencing problems however.
Are you going to sell it or phone bank / muzuma mobile it?
