Someone might correct me, but this is what i think:
The GT28RS spools up quick, but i think that at 350bhp it is getting at its end. The GT2871 is a upgrade for the GT28RS and supports up to 400 bhp + but only gets into play when you really aim over 350 bhp. Probably fastest spooling 400 bhp turbo.
The better of the two when going over 350 bhp (forged internals and stage III tuning) would be the GT2871 the better of the two when staying with std internals and not willing to pass the 330-350 bhp line should be the GT28RS.

MattM runs a RS 0.86 and Flea used to back in the day as well. You might want to ask them for their experiences. I would go for a GT28RS 0.64 with sensible boost and mapping on standard internals.

GT28RS 0.64 would be the better one for you to go for on standard internals - less lag than the 2871 0.64, which you wont be able to get the most out of at the top end with the internals restricting you.
You could also go for the GT28RS with the 0.86 housing which would be between the two, but then the limit of the internals comes into play again. if this was not a factor then the choice would be yours - bigger turbo = more lag and poorer throttle response, but more top end power at the expense of everyday driveability.

if it is for a 16VT then why not use a ballbearing cored T3.

I might have accidentally purchased a Gt2871r .64 today.
I'm hoping to run it at low boost.
I was told that this will spool quicker than the gt28rs .86 that i was running before.
I think with lowish boost and good mapping it should be ok.
P.s. Cheers marco

Also all this talk of an RS making 350bhp, there has been some in the past that have walked that, witha fullon setup. I think my RSR is put at 320 - 340, it made 380bhp, which obviously was a suprise.

I could go for this turbo, im fully forged. Quicker spool up than an RS .86, and a large discount! Where from please.
