Around a month ago i purchased a 1955 standard basic 8 as a little side project to keep my self busy wink

As a few of you know, me and my father are known to dabble in classic cars and actully own 7 of them rolleyes laugh
these are mainly 3 standard 8's, 2 post-war 48 standard 8's
one is a salon and the other is a Drop-head coupe and the other is awaiting restoration.

The Standard 8 originally had a 803cc push rod engine coupled to a 4 speed gear-box which back when new produced
around 25bhp and a rough top speed of 60mph.

The current spec of my standard at the moment is as follows,

Fully rebuilt 2.0' ford pinto engine, Approx 115bhp
5 speed type 9 gear box with one piece prop shaft
RS2000 back axle with a english diff
9' rear drums at the back

To do list,

*Refurb the entire brake system including drums, wheel cylinders etc
* Run new brake lines
*Fit prop shaft
*Make up a hand brake system
*Fit clutch cable
*Fit throttle cable
*Source replacement fuel tank
*Fuel lines,pump,radiater, hoses etc
*Modifie pedal box to accept a cable
*Possible complete re-wire of electrical systems
*Fit spax adjustable shocks
*New lights and bulbs were appilicable
*A bit of welding in places
*New tyres
*Constuct a exhaust
*Refurbed wheels
*A little cosmectic work on the body
* MOT

I'll update this when i can smile

I made a start on stripping some front brake drums down and inspect what parts needed renewing.

This included a clean up and soak in some petrol and a temporaly coat of metal paint to give it a little bit of protection.

I managed to source a set of replacement rear drums complete with back plates and all the gubbins smile as i was missing a few parts rolleyes

I stripped them down and started by getting any loose rust off and giving the back plates a soak and wire brush.
I also cleaned up the inside of the drums to remove any dirt and ridges.

While soaking i dismatled the front wheel cylinders and cleaned them.

Once dried off i painted the drums with some metal paint as a undercoat them some hameriate to finish them off.
The back plates were also painted and when dry, assembled with new wheel cylinders.

Over the last week i have removed the drive shafts from the rear axle to allow me to fit the back plates; also fitted longer wheel studs wink

Another nigglely job i forgot to mention was that a while ago i removed the n/s rear shock to recut the thread.

This weekend i spent on the front suspension going around it and tightening anything which was lose
and evaning up the front trunions, then finailly giving it a greese and top up the oil in the steering box.

After a wire brush to get the old flakey paint off i gave it a coat of metal paint.

Fitted the propshaft this afternoon and removed a few unwanted pipes and
the hand brake cable which is not required, as i will be running a hydrailic hand brake.

A 6 Gallon alloy fuel tank is on order, so i should has this by the end of next week.

Also on order is a fuel pump and clutch cable which hopfully i should have by the end of this week.
