I'm considering to get a HID kit for my Coupé before putting it on streets again.

I know jap had a successfull group buy last year but I can't find out what brand was it? and where to get it from now? frown Also, jap hasn't been in the forum for long time.

I'm basically interested in a "H1, 55W power, 6000k bulbs" HID system.

Any good brands / sources are welcome.

smile

I looked again in the group buy thread and found the ebay store link

And this seems the HID kit of the one of the old group buys. That's too cheap though!!!

is it the same kit Karl? is this a 55W kit?

not to sure at 55W. Somewhere there is a conversion chart.

Mine cam in a red box but yes there the same as mine.

Mine are very bright and very noticable with a tint of blue when you look from the front.

Mine worked out at £35 delivered.

I WILL SAY ONE THING THOUGH;

mine are a bit tempramental sometimes. if i switch from dipped to high beam then back to dipped now and again the dipped (HIDS) haven't come back on leaving me with just side lights until i turn them off and on again.
there are loads of people who haven't had any issues at all with these "cheap cheap HIDS" so i think it might be my wobberly stalk.

There probably is something to be said about getting what you pay for.

from what i hear Jap sells these kits for a bit more £ but no one has had any problems, worth giving him a shout.

Hani,

have a look in the group buy section. Turbo revs is selling kits for £70.

if i was buying again, i would be buying a set off him.

Be careful with these cheap HID kits, any light that doesn't come back on when your switching from main to dip is just dangerous, no matter how much of a good deal they are they will be censored all use to you in a hospital bed or even worse someone else in a hospital bed !

You really do get what you pay for and £35 isn't enough frown

I've had a kit from TurboRevs on my car (35w) for 18 months and am very happy with it.

Turborevs, £69.99 delivered, fitted them to 2 Coops now and I wouldn't risk anything else.

Got mine delivered from Turborevs yesterday and I fitted then today. BIG difference. Easy to install - must be if I can do it!! Instructions with them are hilarious - translated from Chinese and take some working out. But to be honest all you need to do is look at the diagram.

Me too, mine have been running for well over a year and no issues, just don't start the car with them switched on otherwise one might not come on. Switching off and back on once running has it fixed, but I'm not convinced that's not because my electrical system wasn't tip top, in the process of getting new battery, grounding kit etc. fitted so that might help.

I had all kinds of problems with cheap HID in the past. Until i bought these on ebay PHILIPS HID KIT . In Dubai these are sold at a ripoff price of GBP 385/- I installed for my 20VT as well as my Ford Edge. They are perfect. No flicker and strong light the moment you start the headlights. The cheap onces used to light dim at start and often flicker.

My electricals were bad in the past until i got this 20VT Grounding kit . At the time of buying i thought it would be a gimmick. But hey they really seem to work. My car idles well, all the car electrical, interior lights work better and the audio signal has improved. I would say its worth considering.

That grounding kit idea has been on the go for a very long time. Ive in the past made up my own for very little money. Its been tried & tested by others.

Simply put it makes good use of the vehicles electrical system. Especially on older cars as Jumeira has found out.

Thanks for the feedback mates and don't worry, I'm not intending to get any cheap electrical parts for a Coupé wink

Nice kit there Jumeirah smile . Any pics of the car with the lights on, evening or morning time?

I know that Turborevs sells HID kits but they are 35w power type. I've sent him a request on the 55w power HID and waiting on him.

Thanks mate.

It also seems that the 35w HID kit is better and brighter than the 55w one.

Hani, i personaly prefer the 35W 4300K as they give the OE look from the high end cars. The glare to the opposite tracfic is less. I dont know much about the 55w but am sure they are more powerfull. I was advised not to put the 55W as they would generate more heat in my headlamp housing plus you know our summers here.

Here is some info i had received from the 35W v/s 55W KITS.

What is the difference between 55w and 35w kits?

Fully digital, draws less than 6 amps at start up and 3.4 amps at normal operating temperature. This system provides 3200-3400 Lumens at 35 watts and an amazing 5000 Lumens at 55 watts per bulb. In comparison, a typical halogen bulb produces 900-1200 lumens.
55w HID kits are 40% brighter than the standard 35w kits.
The 55W system ballasts are about 1 cm longer than the 35W ballasts.
55w kits tend to wash out some of the color of the HID bulb due to the light output( for example, a 55w 8000k will look similar in color to a 35w 6000k kit).
55w Kits are not recommended for smaller fog light housings because they tend to concentrate a large amount of heat in a small area.

As a follow up on this, I got this kit (35W, H1, 6000K) and here how it looks on the car:

I also got the foglights H1 bulbs and sidelights quad LED bulbs.

More pictures to follow (at night time) when I take the car out of workshop.

I've been using the turborevs kit for just under 2 years. I did have a faulty ballast which they replaced hassle free under warranty. Great bit of kit well worth it, especially on the Coupe with it's 'candles in jars' standard kit.

I've had a grounding kit fitted to mine, but had so much other stuff done at the same time, it's hard to tell what difference it has made, but the car is much improved, I haven't had much engine work done, but the car idles a lot better. Maybe relevent, maybe not.

Hi,

Is there a HID kit available which produces a brighter White light rather than a blue light?

Thanks.

to get white you need a lower k set the higher you go the more blue you get.

id say 8000k would be white enough too low and people will think your jap (yellow)

4300 for oem look, 5000 for a slightly modified look, 6000 is noticeably blue. I couldn't imagine how blue 8000 would look.

Are 35w kits not powerful enough?
