Well as some of you may have seen in fleas mapping section, i had my 16vt re-mapped about 3 weeks ago and am very satified with the results! Only prob i've now got is the car has been letting some quite large puffs of white ish smoke out when pulling up at trafic lights now and again? To be honest the smoking is gradually gettin less and less, a mechanic has told me to drive it for a thousand or so miles as he says it could be doing it as before mapping my bores were getting washed, and now fuelling is right i should give it chance to CARBON UP as this will create a better seal on the pistons?? The car is driving superb and is alot more responsive and faster since fleas map, also tickover is the best its ever been! Car is going to motormech again this week to have the timing of my c&b cams checked as it has ALWAYS sounded a little to tapety for my liking since rebuild so i'll prob get pauls oppinion on the above anyway! Also thinking of replacing my tubular manifold as it has been nothing but trouble.... the massive heat that is created where the 4 pipes meet the flange is causing it to keep splitting, must have welded it atleast 5 times now!! Thinking of putting the standard one back on, but will ask motormech to port it first!? Is it just the 4 ports that are ported or can you port the Flange bit thats bolts to turbo?? Oppinions please?? could be the bore wash since your new rebuild if the smoke is getting less n less thats a win in my eyes.
As for the manifold the guys who built my turbo said it could easily flow 400bhp so im sticking with my oe one.
Does the flea map make the car smoother and worth it?

White smoke is usually water, head gasket more than likely
although it's mentioned that you have recently had a head gasket go if so anti freeze takes ages to burn away so it may be that and as such nothing to worry about, you need to see if the header tank is getting pressurized and if not just run it for a while and see if the smoke goes away

White smoke can be oil, oil smoke stays present for a while, water (steam) will dissipate almost instantly. 120psi is a little low.

its when i come off the throttle or dip the clutch the smoke is prominent I had this on my old punto gt it was the valve stem seals but you would have had yours changed with the head recon. I didnt think cams could lower compression but "low compression pistons would" like you have in your car

Cams can have an effect on compression because compression only start when both valves are closed.
Oil from the rings will go away on boost due to the forces pushing them out words plus you say that it’s not breathing heavy. Heavy white smoke on idle and often on boost indicates turbo.
Just check there is no oil in the intake system. Check the plugs to see if they are oil fouled.
It's sounding more like valve stem seals. As for the low compression I would also guess that this is head related, possibly tappets or valves are not fully lapped in.

Remap is probably a coincidence
Wip the valve cover off and check the clearances with a feeler gauge.
Symptoms of burning oil for worn valve guides/seals and a worn turbo are virtually the same. 2 difference are, if its the turbo it wont smoke right on startup, guides will. Also, worn guides may show deposits on the plugs, turbo wont. Also if it heavy white smoke its the turbo, guides produce blue smoke and it gets worse slowly, not overnight.
If you want to know the true compression ratio you should CC the chamber.
A leak test is a way of finding where the compression is leaking out, if at all.
To test, you basically add compressed air through the spark plug boss with a special fitting.
Air out the breather = rings Air out the exhaust = ex valves Air out the coolant tank = headgasket etc With a test figure of 120, the ammount of air leaking is going to be very minimal, it may take an experenced operator to diagnose it correctly. If there is no detectable leak you can assume your engine is healthy and the test figure, although low is "good". The low test figure could be due to piston dish size etc
