I'm going to change the standard head unit this weekend for a new one.

How do you get it out - are there some special 'prong' style removal tools?, or can you DIY by some other means?.

Also (I can't remember!) does the vehicle harness have standard ISO connectors? or do you need to buy an adaptor lead? or even chop connectors & manually hard-wire the new stereo lead onto the vehicle harness?. If so I will need a copy of the schematic showing which wires are what..?

Non of the above will put me off, any wiring issues and/or fettling will be properly sorted by myself wink

Yes there are special tools to remove the Clarion. But IMHO do not bother.

The best way to remove the HU, and the one likely to cause least damage to the centre console, is to remove the centre console. As you pull the console off you will then see how the HU is retained and can easily remove it. This method is best as you can then fit the new mounting cage correctly and securely.

Yes standard ISO BTW, but on the coupe ISO the switched live is actually permenent. One mod I did was to remove this and replace it with a switched feed (from the ciggy lighter for example). That way the HU goes off with the ignition.

ICE FAQ at the top of this section may help too.

It is possible to release the Clarion HU with two thin bladed knifes. Push one down each side, half way up, then push the HU out from behind. But Bockers suggestion is the easiest - just be careful not to crack the centre console.

I managed to run the battery flat by not wiring into the switched live - My HU has a USB hub in it, which is permanently powered, for some unknown reason.

1. Think of something witty and urbane
2. Imagine it written here

Thanks Blockers, did just that - removed the console & easily removed existing cage & head unit that way thumb

New head unit works fine - sorted the ign switched feed to the ISO power connector aswel.

Whilst I was at it I thought I'd tidy up some of the absmal alarm wiring!, it's a TOAD Ai606 & whoever put it in decided to put the control box at the front of the transmission tunnel, just afore the ecu with the most abysmal wiring routing you will ever see frown 6 wires all going to the same place - but each one routed a different way, round various harnesses & bits of trim & cowboy terminating blush totally pathetic.

Anyway, once I had sorted it & put everything back as it was (or so I thought!) there is now a strange relay clicking when I disable alarm with remote, i.e. relay energising/de-energising rapidly, stops when ignition switched on crazy

all aspects of alarm still work though double crazy
