I know this is quite a silly idea and sorry if it has been asked before but has anyone (with silly money obviously) attempted to mod a coop to be rear wheel drive?

Is this even possible? What would be the big problems? I'm no expert and I'm fully expecting lots of - 'Don't be fccukin stupids! crazy ' and the like - thought it might be an interesting idea to discuss anyway?

Its been tried (well, half-tried) IIRC, it was Beast who hacked a Coupe chassis with the intention of fitting a Ford lump and RWD. He got as far as chopping up the shell to make room for the propshaft and diff, but got bored and bailed out

Its probably easier to build a 4WD setup, using a 16VT lump and Dedra Integrale (or 155Q4) running gear

For what its worth, I don't reckon it would be any better, unless you're planning on entering drift competitions

I'm guessing it would probably be worse off the line because of less weight over the driven wheels as well?

Not really, the weight will shift backwards to the rear wheels so it might be quicker off the line. Larger transmission losses and extra weight will probably negate the initial advantage of a good launch though.
