is £400/year really too much to insure a sports car?

Meh nothing, that's pretty good. I'm 2 years older than you, same NCB, no accidents or points, better postcode, similar level of mods and am paying £500.

This is a group 18/19 car remember.

No it ISNT that good, because last year it was £380 with 12,000 miles a year. I'm only doing 3,000 miles a year, which is a big difference!

Warny - assume you have spoken to Flux,Greenlight, Dazely and quoted the forum membership...also, try Chris Knott and quote the Fiat Forum. Have you added mods hence the big increase or changed something else, address, job etc?

Insurance premiums are going up as a rule, so, no, I don't find it that surprising.

I know what you are all saying but you would expect a significant drop in your premium when you go from using it every day commuting to occasional weekend use... I've reduced my milage by a factor of 4!

Sadly, I've found it doesn't, unless you get one of those really restricted policies from a classic car insurer or some such.

IME, there's only ever been a real difference in policy prices if you are doing big mileages like 20k+ a year.

I think for a relative youngster and a group 18 car, £350-£400 or so is pretty much the 'floor' for premiums.

What you have to take into account is where you live.
Insurance will always be on the high side on deemed high risk areas.

Im just over £200 FC....but I expect that where I live, old git, full no claims, etc laugh

I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time

And I don't think AF really believed they could go that low.

My postcode area is 'refer' which doesn't sound very Terry and June country, even though we've lived here nine years and never had the slightest bit of trouble.

Its got a business element stuck on too, but nothing heavy like commercial travelling. If it wasn't for that Greenlight would have done it for between 450-500.

My renewal is £415 with Flux, up £20 on last year frown

20VT with mods, near Cambridge, old bloke with many years NCB and the club Membership discount.

It is slightly more expensive than last year, but it's not too bad.

I got £375 today with mods (alloys and s/s exhaust) from Adrian Flux. My current insurers, Privilege, wanted £420 without mods or £518 with!

BarmyBob - do you have more than 1 Coupe, as if not your avatar may need updating smile

Erm, well, not really got a Turbo on the car that works ATM.......

As for insurance....

I just stuck all my details into Confused dot com. Prices were cheaper, but I then had a play with milage limits. I was limited to 9000 P/A last year so decided to drop it to 5000 P/A. The last two years I have been well under that!

Confused quoted £243 and a lower excess, this would be insured with Admiral. I Rang Admiral to check and the Mods were not correct rolleyes so spent a few moments correcting their details and then got a new quote of £303.

I then rang Flux..... £295 and a lower excess cool

Admiral multicar, coupe costs £155.78 3000 miles with declared mods, never made an insurance claim. Been driving more years than many members have been alive.

I didn't think Admiral touched anyone with mods. That's why I moved from them, I wanted to put on a strutbrace and they wouldn't give me a policy for it.

No, Admiral don't like strut braces, I didn't fit one so no problem for me. Other things like exhausts and wheels are OK though.

Bob, shop around ! Privilege quoted me £250 for a standard coupe, that soon went through the roof when I told them it was modded and almost quadrupled frown

I did play greenlight off against Adrian Flux however and got my renewal quote of £657 through Adrian Flux reduced to £487 (including 15% club discount) so well worth caling a few.

I'm about to take out a new policy on Friday.

I tried Supermarket.com

20VT Full no claims, No accs or convs, Parked on main road in town, No Mods: £282 with Admiral. cool

However, the only change I am going to make this year is a strutbrace and upgrading the Brake disks to Grooved.

Would ND or flux be able to quote me competitively?

Not my experience, they upped my qoute by about £100 for upper and lower braces, and a rear ARB, plus exhaust and chip. Not bad.

However, ND have just come back to me with a price <£400 so I'm happy smile
