Hi guys I have just called the AA out and been informed that my timing belt is buggered. You guys would know better than me that this is not a cheap job to get done and I dont have the mech skills to do myself. Bottom line is i dont think i can afford the repairs at mo so am having to decide the now best course of action. Unless anyone knows a good mechanic that will do at good price as opposed to going to a main stream garage. Should i sell as a job lot to someone for spares or as scrap value? What might u get for either option? Even if some one wants to strip down and then i scrap whats left? We are talking a 16v Turbo in Blue N Reg, basic car, good condition black leather interior, no enhancements but in good condition for year. Its a sad day as I love driving this car that i have owned for a couple of years. The car is located in County Durham. Paul

There are a couple of options;- - Repair the engine, but this may prove costly
- Sell it for parts, but I don't think you'll get much back
- Or get a good second hand engine* and stick it in
I feel for you, but I think it's perhaps best to cut your loses. *A good 16vt engine is quite hard to find.

well as a not bad 16 valve can be had for around 1k then i would sell the part as even the leathe is worth £100 and just build up the money and i doubt you would need to put more than £300 towards a new one and lets be reall, a 16 valve engine will cost that and to fix the 16 valve engine atleast double that. although if you get it fixed you know you have a good strong car and it will be reliable. you will have to keep it quite a while to get the use out of it though

I have a similar problem, nothing wrong with my car as such, but I've spent a fair bit on it the last year and need to spend more to get it through the next MOT in Jan as well as up to the standard I want. I'm tearing myself apart deciding if I should move onto another more sorted coop and sell or scrap mine, I hate seeing cars scrapped but it's worth less than I've spent on it this year as a complete car!

If I do scrap it though, the engine is superb, 79 k with no problems, if you haven't got anything by the time I decide what to do with it, just drop me a PM, I won't be after mega bucks!

my repair will was over 1k for my work. but i can be sure that there is little else to go wrong with it now as the belts, clutch, and all the other odds and sods are as new
