Do you have a policy on another car? Have you asked your current company to provide temp cover?

If you only need it for under 14 days, just take it out a normal policy with any company online, Thanks to DSR rules as long as you have not claimed you are free to cancle with no charge for up to 14 days

Do you normally get stung with an admin fee though and presumably would have to stump up a year's premium?

Thanks to DSR rules as long as you have not claimed you are free to cancle with no charge for up to 14 days The Distance Selling Regulations don't apply to most financial products, including insurance.

you have 14 days to cancel from the date you receive your documents if you are a new customer or from your renewal date if you are an existing customer. If you decide to cancel, you must return your Certificate of Motor Insurance to us at The Equinox, 19 Cadogan Street, Glasgow, G2 6QQ. As long as no incidents have arisen which could result in a claim under your policy, we will refund the premium you have paid.

would like the short term insurance as a regular thing as the car will be kept in storage when not used. Try Adrian Flux for a Clasic policy with a couple of thousand miles alowance or there are a Few insures offering pay as you go tracked insurance, not the best of things but it will be the way all car insurance is in 10 years time

From one of your links ... If You are dissatisfied with the terms and conditions of Your Policy, You have the right to cancel the Policy from its original start date within 14 days from the date You receive Your documents in Your My Swift Space. Cancelling Your Policy in this way will mean that You will not have been covered by Us. We will return any premium paid provided no claims or accidents have occurred and reserve the right to charge a £25.00 administration fee.

The Distance Selling Regulations don't apply to most financial products, including insurance. Yes they do you have the right to cancle within 14 days, most sites will say it when you buy You're confusing what companies will let you do (cancel within 14 days) with what they are legally obligied to do. Section 5(1)(c) of the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 exempts from the regulations all services listed in schedule 2 of the act. Schedule 2, as you'll know as an expert on these things, gives a "non-exhaustive" list of exempted financial services, number (2) of which is "Insurance and reinsurance operations". What this means is that the DSR do not provide you with the legal right to cancel your policy without incurring an admin fee. Perhaps in future you might like to check your sources more carefully before offering advice.
Dear monos, a secret truth.
