Just say that you have been offered it cheaper elsewhere and ask them what the best price they can do is. Be prepared to throw some figures and company names at them if need be. \:\)

Rather than re-invent the wheel, there is a guide in the insurance section of Moneysavingexpert.com

not sure what you are asking, is the £3500 what they offered you for your stolen car or what they are quoting you for a new premium?

if new premium - as emjay says moneysaving expert is the guys to follow. I just halved my bike insurance with one quick search and a 5 min phonecall. down fron 121 to 63

Ah....find quotes for buying a similar type of car, mileage etc...if it's got any extras then use these to help you as well.

not sure u have much room to manouvre with their figure. They'll be giving you the book price i'd imagine and unless their figures are way of the mark, i'd doubt theres much haggling that can be done, though i'm only guessing as never been in that situation

There's almost always room to haggle. Insurance companies routinely start with something around bottom book value, just to see if you'll take it and shut up.

As a first step write back to them and say that the offer isn't in line with the cost of replacing the vehicle - a few ads from autotrader or likewise for cars of the same model and age should help.

Others I know who have been through recently have found that the insurance company has jumped straight to a decent offer.

Dear monos, a secret truth.

find similar cars at highest value and present the ads to them.

I had a 3 week old motorbike (450 miles on the clock) written off.. cost £5500... first offer £2100.

I just kept rejecting it saying that I had just purchased it blah blah blah.

I eventully got £5150 for the bike and £700 for clothing and lid...

Just keep fighting and the more evidence the better.

Well done, during my recent claim I sent around 25 adds of similar cars to mine, around 100 pages of reciepts, lots of pictures and various letters.

Their argument was basically them saying I was wrong, no evidence, no reasoning.

QBE through ND if anyones interested!

I've heard its common to despute their figure three or four times in some cases.
