iv read a few old posts about boost control and PRVs etc
today i was gunna fit one that iv just bought off someone on here
i know it lets you up the boost and now iv found out that it stops the ecu being able to cut the boost if it goes too high or something like that.
it seems like a good little power increase for the money but obviously dont wanna damage the car.
is it just the turbo it could damage?
are they ok to fit if you have a compression test, and a RR to check everything, and only set to 1.2 bar,or is it a bad idea fitting one?
cheers

Some will tell you it's a bad idea. Others will say it's fine if you know exactly what youre doing and do it properly.

It's not just the turbo that could be damaged, turbos die anyway if you treat them perfectly, its the engine you really need to look after, make sure the fuelling is perfect when it's running 1.2 bar and chances are it will be fine.

I am pretty sure you need a GTEC1 chip when running 1.2 bar, otherwise your fuelling will be too lean. If you have a standard chip I wouldn't run over 1 bar.
I am running a GTEC 1 at 1.2 bar and everything is fine.

well my chip just says eprom on it.
iv been told it may be a powertek but im not sure.
im booked into a RR in 3 weeks so would it be better to see how the engines running before i fit it?
will they be able to tell me exactly what boost im running at and what this chip is doing so i can work out wether to use it or not?

They probably wont be able to tell you what chip it is. I would buy a new chip if I didnt know what I had.

Yep chips are cheaper than rolling roads (or new engines). Get a chip, set the prv to 1.2bar just before the run and get them to check the fueling. That's the safest way to do it if you really must.
