I'm sure I am going to regret asking this, but has anyone ever done or heard of a Coupe RWD conversion? I know of a few people doing 4x4 conversions.
I was wondering if it might be simpler than the 4x4 conversion. Perhaps there may be a suitable donor gearbox and diff. However, I'm guessing that it would be similar level of complexity and modification to doing a full 4x4 conversion.

Group Buy! I haven't heard of a RWD conversion as yet, but appeals to me much more than a 4WD. you aren't being serious though are you???

it would be easier to mount the engine in the back rather than try and make it front engine rear drive get a donar car, chop out the front suspension mounts and weld the lot into the back of a coupe, mid engine rear wheel drive, lovely Kind of like the clio V6,

You wont find many RWD cars with a transverse mounted engine in the front

It could be done, but would have to use an older fiat for it to be done, i think the 124 was RWD and used the same engine as the 16v albeit in 8v trim, so could hobble something together, but a load of customising would need to be done.
Your car is Usain Bolt with wellies

I like the idea of the mid engined RWD Coupe! That would be great fun.
I saw that someone was selling a Coupe rolling shell recently....

IIRC beast was planning (and started) a longitudinally mounted cosworth YB engine with rear wheel drive, but could have been 4x4 I suppose.
He didn't complete it though, I'm sure he will be along to explain.

the one problem i could think about if the engine lay out was the same would be the turning circle. If the back end was to 'step out' i could be hard to get back as there wouldnt be much oppisite lock

Wonder if a 20VT engine would fit in a Fiat X19?
Or if it would fit in an Elise, that would be great!

i guess it depends on if thats important to you or not for me the actual power/power to weight ratio is much more important so my choice would be an all alloy ford duratec turbo half the weight of a fiat 20vt and the head is probably the highest flowing head from the factory ever built, people are getting 270bhp N/A from standard heads on a 2 litre bottom end, imagine what BHP could be made with the addition of a turbo and 2.4 litres 700bhp track elise, yes please

but that isn't a 5 cylinder, so the appeal has gone! No one said it had to be 5 cylinder it just said 20vt I only have a n/a and I love the sound but with the car probably being worth 20p I'm looking into dropping in a 4L rover V8 and RWD, purely as I know a guy who builds kit cars who could help or the other option is to RWD with say a bike engine in the middle.
