Hi,
as promised I'm posting some photos and the whole work carried out to fit a pair of Ferrari maranello 550 rear (allegedly) calipers to my 16vt.
Maranello calipers with pads and crappy adaptors for 305disks I used Performance Friction Rotors (someone in here recommended them and I have to say I'm very happy with their service, help and product)
Rotor 318dia, 28thickness, 60mm pad area detail with mounting kit I designed and calculated the adapters and got a friend machinist to do the ergal hats to my specs.
hats ready drilled for PCD4X98detail of the central hole to fit the hub, note 2 dia + a filletI then drilled the 24 holes on each hat and threaded them (that I'd not like to do again!)
drilling the hatFollowed by assembling them and torquing down all hex bolts to specified torque (less of a pain)
ready for the mounting kitall torqued downfront sideFinally back to the hub, modified the tin protector thingy a bit for the much longer caliper, fitted the adapter plate, and mounted the lot.
adapter plate in placefinished!all ready to goClearance to the TeamDynamicRacing 17inch alloys is almost 20mm!
I've got the autocad drawings for both the adapter plates and the hats dimensioned for anyone interested btw.
Verdict, OK, I've got brakes now, however there was a lot of work involved, designing, measuring, testing, drilling, etc and I'm not sure i'd do it again.
Costs:
calipers+decent pads 500euro
adapter plates and spacers for the plates 90euro (laser cut on heat resistant ss)
hats (free material from a friend on the Greek FCC)
lathing the hats 110euro
rotors + mounting kit 550euro (I'm not sure but thereabouts)
That's about it!
cheers
V.
