Is this the guy with the blue Astra VXR who lives in (I think) Snodland?
What's the going rate for a whole car? The Monaro is a pig to keep sparkly, being black - might treat myself for the summer!

I have a friend who does detailing too. Last time I asked he said they charge about £30 an hour and a full detail with correcting the paintwork takes 12 - 14 hours so you're looking at £350 - £400. I'd just save up and get it resprayed every 3 years.

Well I bought a kit from slimtim for around £250. That included 3 grades of polish, wax, porter cable 7274, leather cleaner and so on..
I say buy yourself the stuff and give it a go.

Ah that was you Flea in the black one I take it? Could of said Hi!
Actually the polish took the £500 Ital Wax off so Marc's got to re-apply the polish after I've given it it's next wash.
Truffle what do you need to know? I can't tell you much, you'll have to go on detailing world and PM Marc!

WOW! This thread has kept me entertained for the best part of 2 hours. This is unbelievable, I just didn't know you could get a car THAT clean! The results on all four cars (Coupe, Veyron, R8 & VXR) are out of this world. I'd love my car to be this clean, but I certainly wouldn't spend £300-£400 (maybe even more) on getting it done - although if I found £500 on the street I'd jump at the chance! Also, I couldn't envisage myself spending 10 hours on cleaning a car either - a couple of hours and I've had enough! Although saying this, maybe you guys can answer a few questions so I can understand how I can get my car cleaner and give it more shine - it certainly lacks shine! Firstly, what's this 2 bucket method all about? These guys don't use chamois leather's, I take it the aqua clothes are better? What's hd cleanse? I take it **** Royale is some kind of polish or wax? What's the foam called? What's the best method when washing the car using these guys stages and products?

The two bucket method is basically one with the smapoo in and the other I use normal water with a grit guard at the botom. Dunk the sponge or mitt into the shampoo'd bucket, wash an area of the car, then into the other bucket so you get any contaminants or grit off the sponge or mitt and you don't end up putting them back on the car and causing swirling or scratching. Instead of chamois most use drying cloths and towels, these are far superior and again minimize the amount of swirling. Hd cleanse is a pre wax cleaner made by zymol. This is applied and leaves an amazing finish, then the wax is applied over this. Zymol royale is an expensive wax at £7,118 isn't cheap, although there are cheaper alternatives, which some say give just as good results.

Man, that's expensive.
What option are you going for if you don't mind me asking? Make sure you post up some before and after pics! She'll be getting the full works. Regularly, too.

The foam is a pre wash step, basically I rinse the car first, then spray a foam mixture over the car, leave to dwell for 5-10 minutes spray off, this just helps eat at the dirt and remove most of the dirt, then wash with the two bucket method. The clay is used to make the paint smooth and glass like to touch, it removes bonded contaminents such as tree fallout and tar.The thing to be careful of when claying a car is to use plenty of lube as if you don't marring will appear and swirling is evident, this depends on what strength clay bar you buy.

I'm spending a day with them soon just to see what they do/ how they do it. I've seen their work on an Alvis that a mate of mine has and it is just exquisite. I'm a fussy sod, too.

To be honest if you don't do it day in day out it's hard to tell as most of it requires feeling the paint, I would recommend the meguiars clay starter kit as it's great for a beginner. That's not a bad starting process it depends if you don't want swirls evident and how much you want to spend. You could easily skip the cleanse and wax process and stick some chemical guys wet mirror glaze on and still get amazing results, as it has fillers which will help hide swirls and only costs around £12 but really gives a dramatic result When I detail peoples cars, I always show them this product and what can be achieved with it, some prefer the finish over a wax.
