Hi All,
Just a quickie, and possibly a stupid question, but i'm not sure.... Been shopping around for Insurance quotes and in one of the them it calls out brakes. They have no issues with factory option bodykits but modifications to the Engine & Brakes will affect premium.
Engine is standard but I've got Grooved PagID discs on the front that Carl put on when i bought it. Are these seen by insurers as a mod or just alternatives the standards??
cheers

I doubt that brake "improvements" would increase the premium. But best to ask them.

You almost certainly don't have a Fiat OE exhaust, Brembo pads, Selenia oil or Pirelli P-Zero tyres on the car either

on the other hand, grooved discs ARE a performance enhancement, so you should declare them - the insurance company probably won't load, as its a safety item, rather than a go-faster mod

i have seen insurance companies charge a little extra and even refuse to insure vehicles that have simple mods such as grooved discs.
they look at it in this way "he's put better brakes on, so he's going to drive faster"
also mods, no matter how small tend to stereotype the owner as a Mc Donalds chav racer, the kind of crowd main stream insurance companies want to steer clear of.

best of luck, hopefully you shouldn't get much if at all any price hike, if your insuance company are fair \:\)

I have noticed that using the companies recommended by this site, that they view your mods differently. You are treated as an enthusiast, not a chav.

^^^ Got to agree with you there Ross. \:\)

Adrian Flux were brilliant and mine's only slightly modded. The advisor was an enthusiast as well and it showed.

It's also given them extra business as Mrs MABR's now insured with them and saved £300 by doing so - result! \:D

Got me thinking, if you didn't declare you had grooved discs, would an assessor really know that they weren't a standard part? I'm not sure a Fiat dealer would even know!

I declare all the mods because it isn't worth it, but surely they wouldn't know what was standard and what wasn't!

I declared uprated brakes (discs and pads) on my Chimaera and had to pay more- about £50 IIRC

PS - I do have a Fiat OE exhaust and use selenia oil on my coop \:\)
