Hi all, I'm Julia and I love my car. I bought it new in 1997 when I had more money than sense and have used and abused it ever since. Sometimes I clean it and sometimes a very nice Polish man at the gym cleans it for me. Usually though it is dirty. Unfortunately the abuse is now starting to show and my poor car is beginning to complain about the lack of TLC over the past 11 years. My children have thrown up in it, I have shopped in it, shagged in it and really cannot bring myself to sell it. So, I am throwing myself at your collective mercies in the hope you can inspire me to look after my car better. I currently need a new front wheel as I damaged the current one by hitting a curb while trying to find my lipstick. Where is a good supplier for new wheels? Do you think I am a lost cause? Help and correction needed. Julia

Try carlt on here for a new 'used' wheel, should be plentiful for the 20v n/a. Otherwise eBay, or perhaps Fiat but they'll rip you off mercilessly! And welcome by the way

Thanks Chaps, this really is a fast and furious service. I could get used to this. I'll give Carl a call tomorrow The man in the garage has hit the inside of the wheel with a hammer to stop the air escaping from the tyre. This seems to have worked in the short term but I'm not sure if the 'hitting with a hammer' trick is the best permanent fix. Want do you think? Julia

Roof Abuse
What is it with Fiat paintwork? The lacquer on the roof of my coup looks like I've spayed it with nail varnish remover (and I haven't by the way). Who is the King of Paint Jobs here in the South?

nobody who buys the turbo version from new seems to keep it for 11 years. instead they get through 3 or 4, kill an engine or two, and end up with a nice plus or LE

.. and congrats, you're only one of two that have had their coupé from new (that I know of). *falls off chair* I can hardly believe this, surely there must be more. I can still remember the day I drove it off the forecourt and I thinking 'yes, you did good girl'. It was a close run thing between the Fiat and the Alfa GTV for me at the time, but I had recently seen a play featuring Agnelli I took that to be the omen to buy the Fiat, and have never looked back since Jules

I didn't but a turbo on environmental grounds. I was thinking of trees at the time...or hair or make up or nail colour or something else that just stopped me shelling out another two grand, when all I was interested in was how pretty it looked on the outside Jules

The really odd thing about this thread is that you haven't had all the "begging for a picture" posts that normally accompany a new female poster's first post. Yet.........

three (predictable) pages in 15 hours - what a surprise Does the same thing happen when a bloke posts up on the Aga user's forum or the WI chatroom? I somehow doubt it. If we keep atttracting new girly members, we're going to have to go the same way as another car forum I was on recently, with a "Lady's corner" so that the fairer sex can discuss stuff like the nicest air freshener or whether Windolene works on headlamps

Humm, this is getting a little off topic...
It is hard to understand how a cemetery can raise burial rates and blame it on the cost of living

... with a "Lady's corner" so that the fairer sex can discuss stuff like the nicest air freshener or whether Windolene works on headlamps The modern "lady" these days would rather discuss rabbits and battery life. We're badly off topic here. Can we get back to the point, which is shagging in a coupe. Is this something else that's improved no end by possession of a dump valve and turbocharged injection? What I'm trying to ask is this. Does horsepower matter?
I'll get my mac...
Sorry, coat...

Sorry, coat... Actually, I can now confess to breaking my duck in a Coop only very recently. Bless her cottons. It was the Plus kit that did for her. Sod horsepower. That and the Jizbags, natch. Nice, huh.

so if you want to share your shagging stories here
I can confidently confirm, er, I mean, I'm reliably informed, that the rear wing and bootlid are an ideal height for a lady to bend over. Well OK then, a female rather than a lady........ Best to use the nearside though otherwise they complain about the petrol cap digging in. Apparently. Carl, did those dents come out OK?!?!

I would like to know how you can curb the inside of a wheel? You can straighten a steel wheel with a hammer, but a cast alloy would crack and break if hit that hard.
Sorry, no offence intended but this is surely a wind-up?

'The man at the garage hit the inside of the wheel with a hammer to stop the air escaping'
I would like to know how you can curb the inside of a wheel? You can straighten a steel wheel with a hammer, but a cast alloy would crack and break if hit that hard.
Sorry, no offence intended but this is surely a wind-up? Hello Greg, In many ways I wish this a wind up, but sadly it is not. I actually really have no idea at all how the inside of the wheel got damaged. It was originally picked up on the MOT a few years ago, and at that point the 'not very nice man in the garage' accused me of being a careless driver. I can only remember hitting the odd curb when trying to locate things on various occasions in the glove compartment while driving. I have owned the car from new and I have been the sole driver, the only other explanation is that the damage occurred while in the garage being 'serviced'. Until this week I have not had a problem with the wheel, except that I have to top it up with air more frequently, but this week it has decided that it wants to leak air all the time. And yes, the man in the garage did 'hit it with a hammer', he said it might crack but it didn't. And to any other doubting Thomas's on here, I really am female. I do have a bit of a husky voice at the moment because I have a cold but I am most definitely FEMALE, thank you. Jules I've spoken to Carl a couple of times today on the 'phone, maybe he can vouch for me

"Hello and How I use my Coupe" hello there, i normally use my coupe to attract members of the opposite sex. This however fails horribly, my coupe will wait until it notices any type of good looking female and kick up a stink example: female: "wow, thats a nice looking car" coupe: "CLUNK!!! SCRAPE!!! GRIND!!! BANG!!!" *females walk off into the distance* *coupe goes back to running smoothly*

... female: "wow, thats a nice looking car" coupe: "CLUNK!!! SCRAPE!!! GRIND!!! BANG!!!" *females walk off into the distance* *coupe goes back to running smoothly* Bad luck Mike Although the upside is that any female that can't handle a little clunk, scrape, grind and bang probably isn't worth knowing Have you tried just leaning against your car rather than driving it? I stopped to see if I could help someone the other day on the A4 heading towards Marlborough (R reg Yellow 16v- anyone here?). I thought he had broken down but he said he was just admiring the view. ... I have got 2 chickens in my field, is that the same sort of thing? This is off topic, but I have 4 chickens, 3 Orpingtons and Plymouth Rock, but only one of them is laying at the moment Are your birds laying Guzbod? Jules Now I'm in love! I ADORE my two chickens, just as I loved all their predecessors before they got eaten by the fox. My heart only has two settings, coops and, well, coop, so if you're into chickens you're OK by me. And only one of mine is laying, the other gave up after seeing her beau and two best mates snatched in front of her.

depends really, my wheel was hit with a hammer, hit with a shoe, hit on by the other wheels and hit by a very unsuspecting cat and it lasted quite awhile

Hi Julia. Welcome to the forum.
I also own a 1997, red, 20v N/A. I haven't done as much in mine as you have done in yours though! I am not surprised you can not bring yourself to sell it. I bought mine in August and it is the only Coupe I have owned.

Hello Coops Good to meet you. I've just realised that I didn't buy my car in 1997, but 1998 instead - oops, genuine error. I call it my Essex car because the number plate starts S6 ---. My car looks just like yours but a bit dirtier Thanks for the welcome Jx

They're in anthracite too so you never have to wash them.. not that you would of course.

Hi Julia, Welcome to paranoia-central. Then again we've only Julias word that she's a girl Let's just hope Stan hasn't got so bored that he's resorted to a new user name and pretending he's a girl in order to get more attention. W.

I see all the burgundy metallic coupes are coming out of the woodwork at last.... I do not own a 'burgundy' car, that would be how a BWM driver would describe their pile of metalwork. I own a dark red metallic coupe with (hold your breath) a tan leather interior. I am not a conventional kind of person, I don't like to run with the crowd. The dark red exterior contrasts nicely with my green eyes, and the tan leather acts as a perfect foil for the obligatory black dress. Maybe my Italian parentage has something to do with my lack of respect for convention? Jx

I stopped to see if I could help someone the other day on the A4 heading towards Marlborough (R reg Yellow 16v- anyone here?).
R reg.. that would've been a 20v then Oh, and it makes a change to see someone who uses their Coupe for things other than trips to Motormech and Shell petrol stations Welcome btw

I have the tan leather also. The finest colour combination for the classic Italian thoroughbred. I find that the dark red paintwork goes well with my bloodshot red eyes Too much (Italian) beer.
