Hi All
I have the original Clarion on my 1998 20VT. I have always had a problem with it, whereby selecting the CD changer was very temperamental. Sometimes you can select it other times only the tuner or cassette. Recently it has got worse and now I cannot select it at all and the front sometimes turns itself on and off when you go over a bump. Does anyone have experience of this, or where the loose connection could be located.

Im based around twickenham and was thinking of taking it into a specialist to get fixed. Does anyone have any suggestions.
Feedback appreciated

Scott

Suggest removing the H/U and checking the changer cable is plugged in properly \:\)

If you are really skinny, you can get your hand round the back of the console and feel for the connector. Its round, but dont confuse it with the aerial which IIRC is at the far end.

I think the unit turning itself on and off over bump is a separate issue probably, but it could be that the main connectors supplying power are also loose,

PS Does the changer eject?

I have the larger gold changer that takes 12 discs.

On mine the solder joints got a bit broken where the round connector meets the circuit board of the changer.

The tracks under the solder joints effectively break off the board.

The best cure for this seems to be to figure out where the track goes and run a wire to the destination.

This becomes a lot harder once you've tried to resolder the connector because the tracks become less visible.

Thanks for all your feedback, I'll try and check the connectors going into the back of the cradle — I doubt my hand will fit though. The changer in the boot has two cassettes holding 6 each. I'll look at these more closely.

Many thanks
Scott

I have the originl Clarion radio in my car as well, when i turn it on it all lights up but no music for up to 3/4 minutes at times. It can go off over bumps as well, now i've put this down to a lose wire for now. However I don't know if its inside the radio or out,one day i'll get around to sorting it.Plus ive got 12 cd player and it jumps if going over bumps.Hence i hardley ever turn the radio on if im just doing a short run but the engine sound makes up for it !! °\( \:D
