Something like a unichip I'd say. He is probably mis-understanding what a Gtec chip is.
The Gtec chip alters the basic settings of the car and is a plug & play chip it adjusts the fuelling, boost, timing etc to a predetermined state. It means that it is a chip that will do the same thing to each car it's put into, depending on other mods etc and it isn't specifically matched to an individual car. That's why it's so important to get the fuelling checked on a RR as it's different on each car.
When you map a car on the rolling road and the tuner adjusts the fuelling, timing, boost etc to get the maximum power/torque out of the car, but hopefully with it still being safe(2 degrees from det I think it is normally
).
A live map is one way of doing it and the unichip is another. The live map replaces the information on the ECU(which not many people do due to the software/connectability I assume) and the unichip sort of piggy backs over the ECU and they map the unichip specifically to your car.
I would say that a unichip & a live map are both live maps as they map specifically to your car, but it's the terminology that might be mis-leading.
That's my understanding anyway.
