What does this mean in English guys...& is he right?

"Hi chris

I cant re-map the standard ecu and you already have a gtech chip to
alter
your fuel and ignition maps.

what i can do is carry out a dyno diagnostic to check if everything is
running ok and that you have no knock and the a/f ratio and boost are
ok.

this will cost £99+vat"

Depends who said it. Not many people can live map the ECU, it's normally a piggy-back chip that's mapped over the top of the cars ECU but they will give you a power/torque/fuelling/boost/det checks on a rolling road which is a diagnostic check I suppose.

Something like a unichip I'd say. He is probably mis-understanding what a Gtec chip is.

The Gtec chip alters the basic settings of the car and is a plug & play chip it adjusts the fuelling, boost, timing etc to a predetermined state. It means that it is a chip that will do the same thing to each car it's put into, depending on other mods etc and it isn't specifically matched to an individual car. That's why it's so important to get the fuelling checked on a RR as it's different on each car.

When you map a car on the rolling road and the tuner adjusts the fuelling, timing, boost etc to get the maximum power/torque out of the car, but hopefully with it still being safe(2 degrees from det I think it is normally \:\? ).

A live map is one way of doing it and the unichip is another. The live map replaces the information on the ECU(which not many people do due to the software/connectability I assume) and the unichip sort of piggy backs over the ECU and they map the unichip specifically to your car.

I would say that a unichip & a live map are both live maps as they map specifically to your car, but it's the terminology that might be mis-leading.

That's my understanding anyway.

In English it means he CANNOT map you car but he will check you engine for det and A/F.

If it’s wrong he cannot change it but just tell you it’s wrong. Nothing special there waste of money if you ask me as when you get it mapped they will do this anyway.

If you want your car mapped you need to find somebody who can LIVE map the Bosch ECU or get a Piggy ECU like UNICHIP.

I have a spare unichip if you choose to go down that road.

At a good RR like Road n TRACK, they charge according to how long its on the Rollers, whether a few hours or 2 days. Each make of car and ECU/Bespoke ECU are different. Anyone that gives you a fixed price, and says it will be done quickly, i would run a mile from.
