I think there's a register of LE's somewhere. Yous should be able to find it using the search function.

Also we don't know LE's by number so colour location etc might help jog memories.

The only register I know of is this one here , but it's a bit out of date

The car is for sale at a trader near Chester, though I'm guessing the previous owner was local-ish.

That's the one, I haven't seen it yet as it's several hours away. Have spoken to the seller, but there isn't much detail in the service history. Apart from the stamps it had a new clutch in 2004 and £1100 bill around the same time, presumably for a cambelt change. Was hoping it may have been a member's cars

Are we talking about the one at the garage in Holmes Chapel? I had made an enquiry on it before I bought my Plus, I can post the info I was told. It's not far from where I live, so if this is the car we're talking about and you want someone to go and check it out, then let me know and I'll see if I can pop down there.

At £4399 its priced according to the history and condition best to go have a look at it in its current mechanical state don't worry too much if all history is not the end of the world it has to be expected at the age its at.

Okay update (this will teach me to not read things properly) - I just noticed you've mentioned the service bill for £1,100 - so it IS the one at Holmes Chapel.

In response to my initial enquiry (about exactly what work had been done etc), this is the email I was sent by the seller:

"The car is supplied with a 8 stamp service history though no invoice etc to say if the cambelt has been changed.I have contacted Caledonia who have done the majority of the servicing who informed me the service carried out at 67000 miles was for £1100.They believed the belt was changed at this point but wernt able to look at the job due to old computer system.I could give you their number in the event you wanted to confirm this.Unsure about turbo or exhaust though there is an invoice for a replacement clutch in 2004 at Caledonia for £880.

My view on the car is that it hasnt been messed with and is purely standard."

IMO I would be wary of purchasing without confirmation that the cambelt has been changed, because obviously you cannot risk running the car if it needs doing (BIG damage if it snaps!). The alternative is to haggle down the price based on the fact you will need it doing for peace of mind - I believe Motormech do a cambelt service for around £800 (confirmation anyone?) so you could use that as a starting point when negotiating.

Regarding what was written in the reply email (above), if the garage cannot confirm to the seller that the cambelt was done, then I don't see how they would be able to confirm it to a private enquirer either, so I expect you would be wasting your time phoning Caledonia.

As I said I'm fairly local to this car though, and if anyone is interested in knowing more about it without making a massive journey I don't mind popping down to check it out and feed back.

ps I think Caledonia are a main Fiat dealer. I was under the impression that Fiat dealers charged a hell of a lot more than £1,100 for a full cambelt service (I remember being quoted £1,900 once!) and if this is the case, then it casts doubt over whether or not the belt was changed as part of that 67k service. Perhaps somebody else can just confirm this though, as this is just my 'hunch' and not necessarily based on hard facts.

Cambelt and Waterpump - £434
Service A/C - £170

10% discount for fccuk members \:\)

If you are interested in it though, quote the Fiat dealers price for a cambelt change ;\)

Thanks Bezzer \:\)

Of course if you were using it as a means to get some money knocked off the asking price, you'd probably go with the highest possible quote \:D

The seller tells me there's a place in Leigh that quotes about £500 for the cambelt job, so trying the £1300 option is a no-go. Sounds like a nice car but without absolute proof I'd want to do a cambelt and that would take it well over what I want to spend on a car.
