Two weeks ago as I was happily driving along the road I heard an odd sound from the engine bay promptly followed by the engine stopping. So after wrestling the car down the big windy hill I was on with no power steering or much in the way of brakes I opened the bonnet to see that half of my auxiliary belt had disappeared (later to be find wrapped around the crank pulley °\( ). Recovery truck home it is then....

2 weeks later, 1 new timing belt, modified pulley from barbz and several grazed knuckles we have a functioning coupe. No signs of damaged valves or pistons. \:D Belts sound a bit funny, thinking maybe the air con one is a little tight, but I’ll see how it goes over the next couple of days. Unfortunately I didn’t buy a lottery ticket on the day the belt broke, otherwise I could be a millionaire by now. ;\)

Just like to say thanks to everyone who answered my pms and emails or phone calls asking for advice. And big thanks to Matty for helping me change over the belts. I’m sure I owe you quite a few beers by now mate. ;\)

At the same time I fitted the lower subframe brace and I think I can feel a bit of a difference although my tracking needs sorted and I need to fit new bushes in my rear shocks so haven’t really been pushing. I also \:# the short shifter, extremely worthwhile modification, cheers Barbz.

Oh yes, I replaced my radiator at the same time with a nice shiny alloy one. And I made a home-made radiator support bar as the other one had turned completely to rust. I expect this one to do the same in the near future but not to worry.

I think Barbz (and Powerfiat) have developed pulleys with some kind of guard to prevent the auxilliary belts taking out the cam belt \:\)
