Well, I thought I'd have a good shop around for insurance this year - and I'm very glad I did.
I have a mods list as long as my arm (16 in total) with GT28R turbo, FMIC, Chip, lower supsension, 300bhp etc featuring in the list.
I'm 32, have full NCD and the wife is on there as well (30) with full NCD as well.
***I was looking for a 5000 mile per year policy***
Greenlight renewal came in at £573. Noel Dazely - £508 Adrian Flux - £489
Then Kwik fit insurance phoned me! They couldn't insure me but refered me on to a referals company who in turn refered me onto 5 other companies!
Just when I was losing the will to live (and was being turned down by most) a company called Policy Shop came up with £450!
I then called the others back and it ended up in a quote-off between Adrian flux and Policy Shop.
In the end Policy Shop won at £425. For a very heavily modded coop I think thats fantastic!
£250xs, fully comp, protected NCB, legal cover, 90 day green card, 5000miles/year.
Give them a go - 0800 316 8955 (quote reference 170115)
James

Try this number for the Policy shop direct 0800 064 4404. The other number might have been getting you through to the referal company and not the Pilicy Shop at all. Sorry.
Quote promotional code 170115 to get the discount I did.
Good luck y'all

Yes James, I would be interested in a bit more info, like Ross. I am going to need to insure with somebody by Friday night, so am looking at all the options now. This time round I will be declaring everything, to keep on the right side of the law. My cousin just had a prohibition order served on his WRX for undeclared mods.

Yeah but they can "allow" the mods, where they add a premium but will only return the car to stnd. Or they can "cover" the mods, and will replace like for like.
I think only Jap would know the answer to that one. And im thinking its gonna be allowed.

This doesnt state whether this is allowed or covered. Ross It is both allowed and covered on a like for like basis, thats what I was told when I took out the insurance
Ex 20VT - now something far more sensible'ish...

Sorry gents - I should have spotted this before now. All my mods are declared, allowed and covered on a like for like basis. So if the coop gets stolen or written off I get the money I need to get me a std coop and the money for new performance parts and labour to get me back to what I lost. James

James Hate to rain on your parade but highly unlikely IMO. In the event of total loss you'll get market value for your car. This will be quite different to your perception of its value. They won't be attaching any special value to your mods, not unless you have an agreed value policy and even then it will never add up to the cost of a standard coop + all the shiny mods. Buyer beware. I doubt anyone on here has their modded Coop properly covered. i.e. what it cost them to put together.

Buyer beware. I doubt anyone on here has their modded Coop properly covered. i.e. what it cost them to put together. Very true.... until recently... check this reply from adrian flux regarding this same issue...we asked if they would pay out the estimated value of a car or market value. "Please note that in the event of a total loss claim, the insurers will pay the market value of the vehicle. They will not pay for the cost to rebuild a vehicle to the specification of the previous vehicle. This is due to as you may, for instance, spend £5000 on modifying a vehicle, it may not necessarily then be worth that amount." When asked how the market value was worked out... "The market value of your vehicle will be judged on the value of similar vehicles with similar modifications. In the event of a claim, they would take into consideration the modifications on the vehicle, however they would not cover the price of a standard vehicle and the cost you have spent on the modifications. The modifications are covered like for like, however prices vary is different places and in the event of a claim they would look into the modifications done, the price you paid for each part and the current market value of the modification." So there you go. Ross

Ah yes, but the market value of a modification isn't the same as the purchase price + fitting cost of a mod.
To take an extreme example, if you spend £5,000 having a fantastic custom paint job done in your favourite colours of day-glo green an sparkly purple then the effect on the market value of your vehicle is going to be, at best, nothing.
The important part of Adrian Flux's reply is they would not cover the price of a standard vehicle and the cost you have spent on the modifications.
Dear monos, a secret truth.

Just got off the phone to the Policy Shop and spoke to them about my policy.
They said that I was covered (in the event of theft, write off etc...) for the cost of a basic car plus the cost of "special" parts plus the cost of fitting those parts.
I asked the lady if she was sure and she said definitely yes. She also said her name was Maria Gardner and that all calls were recorded and that I could refer to this call in the future if I needed to. (Time of call 2.25 on Thurs 27th Sept - for my own future reference)
