I'm think of changing the shocks this summer, from OE's to Bilstens. I want to keep the standard ride height because of the bumpy roads over here.
So I'm sticking with OE springs.......

My question is this, should I put new OE springs in at the same time as the new shocks?? or are the originals ok for a few more years?

I'm intending to hang onto the car for a good few years to come all going well

The car is a '98 with 88k on the clock.
It was a UK car till sept '05, you do have better roads over there ;\) and it's done 21k since I've had it so the wishbones are getting changed too!

I vaguely remembering reading a post that it was best to put new springs on at the same time.

Suppossedly its the best handling/comfort setup but if the springs are getting on a bit they can struggle with the bilsteins.

And the end of the day the springs will need done at some point so you may as well change them at the same time rather than having to strip everything off again at a later date.

lol, no you had it right first time, Billys with standard springs is the best for ride quality and handling on bumpy back roads.

So long as your standard springs are looking ok with no rust etc then they will be fine.

LOL It happens to the best of us Paul \:P

The front springs looked ok last time I did the brake shims
I'll double check them and if they're ok, I'll run them till they eventually snap ;\)

Cheers for that, I wasn't sure what was the story with old springs.

How's the gear linkage now Jimbo?

Just done this myself ( well ok mechanic has) cars a 97 with 47/48k on it. Springs were fine as otherwise he would have moaned at me for not doing the lot. Ride is much better feels possibly a touch harder but much more supple if that makes sense, you can feel everything still but it isn't banging or crashing. Wish I'd done it a lot earlier.
