Was just wondering what these inspectors actually look at when it comes to inspecting a car.

A lady drove into the back of my car a couple of weeks ago and since its her fault, her insurance company is sending out a inspector to check the damage etc.

I think they inspect the damage but also make sure the car was completely roadworthy beforehand...will look for all ways to wriggle out of paying

Oh I see. The car only just passed an MOT which is handy, taxed and insured too (of course). Just worried they might knock the value of the car down and write off the coop \:\(

If I were you I would not let him near the car. Let him see the damage but thats it. I would not submit the car to be tested inspected looked over nothing.

He can see the damage she caused and that is it, then he can move one.

Just my advice but don't even let him get comfortable, 2 mins look check damage end of.

I am not sure but do not think you have any legal liability to let him inspect the rest of the car. It is also not his job to write the Coupe off.

Sorry but just better to nip this sh*t in the bud before it starts

I wouldnt piss off an insurance inspector, ive seen that done.

Let him do his job, half of them are blind anyway, got a 6k plus here written off in a fault claim with bald front tyres, still paid up.

I take it they don't take too kindly to people annoying them!

I'm just a little worried because they will see all of the quotes I have been out and got, and even though I have told them I am going with the cheapest (and by far the best) quote they still say I cannot book it in until it is inspected.

SO annoying because it was some old dear that drove into me and I have all the hassle of getting my car fixed.

On the up side, its an excuse for a respray \:\)

Thats understandable.

You could be claiming on alot more than is needed, no harm in them checking. They usually do. Saves alot of hassle later on.

Honestly there not a bad bunch, only doing there job, but if you cause them grief they like to excerise there little bit of authority.

Will just wait and see what they say.

Thanks for the advice.

Well I will defer to Carl on this, but an inspection is only warranted so far \:\)

Well, I must say I really dislike insurance inspectors now!!!

The guy went to see my car today when I wasn't there(even though I specifically requested to be present) and said that my tailgate was fundamentally flawed and would never have lined up with even panel gaps!!!

I assured him that my boot used to close properly and didn't have a panel gap I could fit my finger in, but he basically said I was lying. Tried to offer me £250 for work that four insurance approved bodyshops have been quoting about £1500 to do!!!!!

So annoyed with the guy, but luckily have a very good picture of the rear showing perfectly even panel gaps.

Rant over \:D

See if your insurance has legal cover. When someone ran in the back of me my insurance company (Elephant) advised me to claim through the legal cover instead of going through the insurance because it would be better for me. Surprisingly honest I thought.

This meant I didn't have pay any excess up front to get my car fixed, I got a free hire car for as long as I needed it, all out of pocket expenses were paid. The legal people basically pais for everything I needed and then went after the other party/insurance for payment. I didn't even have to speak to the other insurance company at all. It doesn't even count as an insurance claim either. Only works if its was 100% no fault but worth asking the question. \:\)

Other thing to watch out for is if you have any extra non-standard body kit, or any extra mods on the engine that have not been declared. I have a friend who had a straight through exhaust and bigger than standard wheels on a 50/50 claim, insurance company claim his insurance was invalid as he had not declared it. Eventually got a payout, but took months!! Just depends how jobs worth the inspectors are, you have to try and treat them as if they are doing you a favour coming too look at your car, sad but true.

Also make sure you find cars in similar conditions on autotrader/Pistonheads etc as book value for the coups is much lower and take copies, just in case they write it off!!
