Okay, for a long time Scooby and I have been talking about visiting you Scottish lot seeing as you won't come here Tartan has offered us a polace to stay and he is 'mostly Aberdeen' I am told so we are looking to arrange a meet to come up and stay. The dates have to agree with Tartandude and us but apart from that we're open to suggestions

Another thought, if you were willing to wait until April you could attend the Scottish Italian Car Day in St Andrews. So drive up Friday- meal/drinks Friday Night Saturday - Drive/Meet with us Northerners more drinks/food in evening Sunday - Italian Car Day - drive down then you could stop in Glasgow that night before heading back down the road on the monday.. Just an idea so feel free to chip in other suggestions!
Ex 20VT - now something far more sensible'ish...

The Scottish Italian Car day is the 28th May at Craigtoun Country Park, St Andrews. Always a big coupe turn out!! Might still be worth jotting down. A great day with good weather, a good day with cr*p weather. Could arrange a few drives the day before to take in some scenery!! Mean time if there are any other dates closer by then my brother and I will pop along. Matty with weekends free....Your work place burnt down?? Daz just head into town - bars ratio are 2 per person so you wont go wrong Thursdays are always mad busy so look for the busy places. Remember to pack your Kilt!! Si

Not quite, just time for a change. I'll explain once everything is done.
I'm looking forward to St Andrews in May, I've never been to an Italian car day.

If Bobbs and Scooby are coming all this way, how about organising some carting or something? If not I think a meal out somewhere is on the cards.

In between my chaotic schedule of sending out emails and surfing the web at work today, i did have a think about this.
I thought if we met in Aberdeen, in the morning we could all go a drive out the N Deeside road past Banchory. There's a nice little hotel at Potarch which does a cracking lunch.
Then we could come back into town and do something else, or head back over the cairn o'mount, which would be a nice drive.
It all depends if you guys want to do a nice drive or whether you'd rather do something else instead, having driven for about eleventy zillion miles to get here.

I *think* we sort of decided to be in Edinburgh for the weekend of the 25th Feb. Even if we can't get tickets, should be fun to spend the afternoon in a pub near Murrayfield with my England shirt on Then we'd spend the week seeing some of the Scottish higlands, do some touristy stuff and then end up in Aberdeen the following weekend (1st weekend in March). So, if anyone wants to meet up at the weekends, or knows nice places to go during the week then let us know

Scooby, sounds like a great plan, I guess you guys have a car whilst your here? If so, the road straight from Edinburgh to Aberdeen is pretty dull (A90) and also speed camera hell from Dundee onwards. However, there are some great places to see along the way. Dundee has great shopping, Stonehaven (where MattB resides) is a great fishing village with a couple of great pubs. Also in Stonehaven is Dunnotar Castle which is pretty dramatic, although it's going to be a tad cold at that time of the year. Would you guys then be on for dinner on the Saturday night? There are a bunch of good places to eat (and drink) in Aberdeen, and I'm sure the other Aberdeen folks will be up for a meal. I'd offer to bar-b-q, but again, possibly still a bit early in the year

I'd just like to highlight that if you're worried about cold weather, might not be a good time of year to head towards Aberdeen. Summer time here usually exists for a couple of days some time in July, if you wanted to delay for sunshine. What sort of things are you looking to do while you're touring?

Che, yes, we'll be in a Coupe of some description. Just fancied having a look round Scotland, been up there a few times for work but never got a chance to get outside of Glasgow. Not really bothered about the weather, as long as there isn't 8 feet of snow! Basically, not had a break since September 2004 and need some time off work so the choice was fly somewhere warm for a week, or don our warm coats and head to the frozen wasteland to the north

In which case......
There is a stunning drive if you go out from Edinburgh through Glasgow then up the side of Loch Lomond. From there up to Fort William, then along the side of Loch Ness up to Inverness. You can then follow the road round the coast back in to Aberdeen. Depends how you fancy spending the week, but I did this drive spread over a week when I first moved up here, and it is a stunning set of roads to drive.
If not, I'm sure the others will be along to recomend a list of bars that would be more than capable of occupying you for the week in Edinburgh, starting with the Oxford bar...... :-)
Either way, I'm sure you'll enjoy it up here.

Right, holiday booked off work, Scotland here we come! Plans are still to be finalised, they are releasing some Scotland v England tickets on Tuesday so I'll be phoning up to try to get some. As an aside, apparently they are allowing up to 4 tickets per customer, if I get through, does anyone else want a pair of tickets for Murrayfield on the 25th? No idea how much they're going to be, probably around £70 a ticket judging by the prices for the France game.
