re this http://www.fiatcoupeclub.org/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=269083&page=0&fpart=1

Not yet had offical word, but after talking to the bodyshop. It's going to be written off . Seems the intercooler, the aircon is all squashed. new headlight etc.etc. it's all adding up.

If I see that van in the layby again. Think I might try eddie murphy's trick from Bev Hill Cop, i.e the banana up the exhaust. (and I'm not talking about the vans ;\) )

\:\( Must admit, I didn't think they'd fix that , we've seen coops with much less damage written off. The bonnet seems a very sensitive area. \:\(

You could maybe do as others have proposed and buy it from the insurers then get Catlt to fix it \:\)

It's an option, however the body shop guy said they stamp a large Cat C sticker on the paperwork nowadays. I guess that it would greatly lower the value

Yeh not worth buying back to repair.

You pay them 2k for it then 4k for the repair and your upto 6k for a car thats now worth 4k.

I'd offer a hefty price for it though, if your interested let me know the buy back cost option and ill put a very large drink ontop for it.

Who you insured with? Please say Norwich Union

fcuk, that shit luck add', It really does look like a minor front end shunt, apart from the bonnet, which always looks worse than it is, i would reckon it's the bodyshop labour costs that are actually writing off the car, as their estimated labour is pushing up the cost, i mean ffs, an OE intercooler is pennies & piss to fit

but, it is a shame, as too many coops are being written off for superficial damage !

I used to smash up numerous other cars in the past, with tons of heavy front end damage, only ever written off one, when the roof bent up,

bad break add', hipe you get a good settlement, but it never replaces all the care & time spent on the car

Its the rediculous methods insurers use though. They have got far far worse.

An OE intercooler, what £350 new? all adds up, although you can buy them off me for £15 there buggers.

£45 an hour labour.
£55 an hour for paint.

Trouble is with the parts and paint even a cheap repair would still sting you 4k.

Think I'll get has much as possible agreed on the settlement first. Throw in a few things, like it's just had the cambelt done. Should get the value up a bit when they see what Fiat charge for that .

Then start to talk to them about buying it back

I will sell the number plate (T20V FC Turbo 20 Valve Fiat Coupe )

btw Carlt it's insured with Ensign... sorry \:\(

Really sorry to hear that.

Hopefully you will be able to buy it back and get it back on the road. Would be a shame to see another coupe written off and stripped - especially when it's the best colour and spec.

I guess it also depends on how long you were planning on keeping it for.

Sympathy, Adder... I'm just coming through this from the other end of the spectrum. I was able to persuade the loss assessor that the pre-crash condition and the one-owner-from-new aspect were significant, and he was sympathetic enough also to reduce the buy-back cost to under two hundred notes, so mine's getting fettled.

There's *no way* it's in any way sensible for me to fix mine, but it should come back from Carl's looking like new, and frankly, I've kinda got used to having it outside the house \:\)

NOOO!

So do insurers go by book price and book price alone? regardless of how much its been looked after / condition etc?

Well they start from the book price and then you start the arguements

You can sometimes come out of claims better thn you started ;\)

I had a bravo once i wrote off, i bought it for 3,3k at the time couple of months later i wrote it off and got 3,9 from them i had to argue about fsh and cambelt was just done also and it all added up to my favour sometimes they ask for the history so dont exagerate cos if they call your bluff it will work against you.

Just been through the exact same thing. Mine was a cat c write off too. The numbers just didn't add up when i looked at retaining the salvage and repairing (Insurance co wanted 25% of the settlement offer).
Numbers must have added up for someone though. CarlT saw that it went for £1700 \:o at the salvage auction.

Typing my reject letter as I post ;\)

I would settle for £6500-£6000. it's got 97k on the clock but don't forget whole new engine and turbo at 49k miles

the letter states that the policy holder is not allowed to retain the salvage, and must be disposed of under DoT regs. so don't know what to do re fellow fccuker's wanting parts.

6k? No chance. Sorry, but you've not a prayer of getting that.

5k, tops. I'd be amazed if you got more. And I work in insurance.... I hope I'm wrong though.
