I am unfortunately one of those people that smoke I don't smoke in my house and never will, so tend to stand outside for a puff come rain or shine. There is one other pleasure I get from standing outside and that's looking at my car. I have had weird and wonderful things over the years, my last car being a 2003 Range Rover V8 Vogue, which to me and maybe others said "I've made it!" It was superb. I have to be honest, my favorite car of all has to be Chris Bangles design.... my £5k coop. She's not my first though and I have been 7-years without one until recently. I cannot think of another car that I can simply keep staring at in admiration and not tire of, although driving this particular example is even better than looking at it! Am I alone in feeling this way? (about the car, not the smoking!) I'm not too sure on that score

I was in Sheffield recently and went to the David Mellor factory - the steelworks is a round building with ground level windows all around it.
I recommend a couple of circuits for all coop worshippers
And welcome back to coop ownership by the way

I don't reccomend driving round NEIL Mellor though- it'd take you ages and you won't get a single reflection of automobile perfection

Absolutely! As stated above, the slashes above the wheels, the curved and gently flared rear arch, the round rear lamps, the (modelled on Chris Bangles wifes posterior) front headlamps. Stunning to look at, even better to drive.

I love the look of the coupe but there are practical issues that really bug me.
My worst three are...
The horrible huge hinges in the boot. Turning circle is embarrasing sometimes. Hollow mirrors collect dirt, spiders and water.
I still love it though.

Well yes, there are a few down sides. I recall that the press were not impressed with the hinges which apparently were decided upon due to cost even though they intrude into the boot when shut.
The turning circle I believe has something to do with the width of the engine and gearbox restricting the lock.
All car mirrors seem to be a target for spiders in my experience.
The car was only about £26K when new so a lot of car for the money. Nothing else looked like it back then (and I think the design still hasn't dated)
Nothing looks like it now either.
A piece of very good value automotive art?

I love looking at mine. Gets lots of comments. Most people think its worth a LOT more than it is. Allways amuses me.
My first encounter was when my old man nearly bought a Yellow 20VT back in 1998. I loved them back then.

I also nearly bought one instead of my previous MR2, just at the time I couldnt get what I wanted for the money I had. Then one day I was sat there and thought I could do with more seats and thought [***] it sell the MR2, sold the MR2 within 2 hours of posting it and then 3 weeks later owned the coupe

LMAO this had me wondering about Bangles wife for a minute, as I read "the round rear lamps, (modelled on Bangles wifes posterior)
As for the turning cicle. I went to our local Asda the other day and you can save a mile and a traffic queue by using some neaby street parking, then walking across the road to Asda. There were no spaces
I'll drive down this single lane buses only road and do a naughty turn into asda at the end of it. BlOOdy coop couldn't make the turn. I had to do a five point turn to get in but I had to keep stopping to let oncoming cars onto the carpark (well they weren't going to stop ) and then a bus came behind me and had to wait
Beautiful design though and after two years of ownership I still look back at mine

I find supermarket carparks are the worst for the coupe. People just don't leave you room to pull round a tight corner, then look at you weird thinking you can't drive. And have you ever tried a U turn on a mini roundabout? I don't even attempt it now. I think being a girl, it makes people tut at me more, just thinking it's me and not the turning circle.
I still look back at mine too. It always gets comments wherever I go. I get flashed and waved at a lot more since driving the coupe too.

Thats how i know its true love though and not just infatuation - I acknowledge its faults and it makes me love it more

Vile, tried stopping but I have to keep standing outside to look at my car all the damn time! Do you think Hypnotherapy will work for my car staring addiction?

Hmmm. Not sure. But I hear 'Couperette' patches work well. You stick a picture of your Coupe on your arm, and you can stare at that instead. Guaranteed 100% success rate.

To be honest owning my Coupé feels like i`ve reached the pinnacle of car ownership this side of the lottery. I don`t feel the need to get a status car like a BMW or Mercedes and i have a little chuckle to myself when i see a fully loaded up Scooby go by,thinking how much they look like a toy car . The Coupé is just perfect in my eyes . Baz
