Being always busy working on everyone's else's Coupés and life away from work I never get much time to think about Rocket, car was last run back in 2016 for an open pit day at Brands Hatch and since then it's sat looking sad for itself except for the few times I gave it a wash and run up the engine up to temperature so the time has come and I've made a start on recommissioning including doing some upgrades.
Engine is fully forged with Cosworth pistons, balanced and running C&B cams with a Gt30/82 German kit turbo bolted to a cast Spa manifold, 3.5 inch downpipe, 3 inch exhaust, piped screamer and ran 500+ bhp on E85 back in 2013 ready to take to Belgium SpaItalia which was cancelled ufortunately, it was a total lag monster but kicked like a mule when it spooled up and was very competitive. New setup, I've got a big valve head to put on with a bespoke plenum, 90 mm throttle body and a new G26 660 turbo which will work much better for the shorter UK circuits. New BC's, race seats and harnesses also already purchased so presently researching brakes and fuel system.
Theres no time scale on this project so I'll update as I go along but for now the engine and box are out along with the fuel system so progress has been made.
The problem with working on everyone else's Coupés all day is I never get time for my own.... I literally have to steal an hour here and there during the week but I've made progress. Engine was stripped down so I could inspect the crank and bearings, reassembled with a freshly ported and polished big valve head, CB cams reinstalled, new belts, water pump, sensors etc etc, all pretty routine really and lastnight I finally mock mounted the turbo and manifold to start looking at the new lines as the coolant has AN fittings instead of banjo, must say it's nice to have some room around this blower in comparison to the old 30/82 that was removed.
