I am again looking for another car in addition to the Coupe to be used for daily work-horse duties, shopping & ferrying stuff about, trips to Tip & particularly carting gear to music festivals etc.
I'm after an estate (or a large hatchback) with lots of space in back
Budget - £1800 tops, petrol or diesel
I also want something with a bit of power & torque - say 150bhp + for M'way cruising.
Been looking at the Saab 9-3 Sportwagon which are getting real bargains but struggling to find a suitable one in the Midlands within my budget, seen some go for stupidly low money - even with sub 100k miles
Anyway, spotted a 2006 Croma 1.9JTD estate 150bhp 97K very tidy FSH etc (and obviously cheap!) but know nothing about them, had a bit of a butchers on the Fiat Forum about them anyone enlighten? - worth a punt if cheap enough or stay well clear? DPF's seem to be a problem (as with any poorly maintained modern diesel)
Belts/tensioners & water pump would need doing too (overdue) what sort of price for this job all in - £300+ ?
Any advice on the Croma (or any other suitable car welcomed)
Thanks in advance
We had a Croma 1,9 Mjet 16v Eleganza for 4 years between 2007 and 2011. Reliable it was, spacious it was, good to drive daily and comfortable. Boot is huge with seats up. Eleganza spec is best. Dynamic ok'ish. Prestario spec over the top but chops headroom due to glass roof and hard bone crunching suspension on the 18's.
Weak points are the Alternators and front and rear suspension. Do remember these Croma' share a huge amount of parts from the Vauxhall / Opel Vectra C and Signum models, as GM and Fiat where in alliance when these were in production. Sold between 2005 - 2008
They are a big bargain now and fully supported with spares.
Avoid the 1.8 Petrol, totally gutless.
