Hey peeps.
I have a turbo that I am rebuilding with a hybrid turbo rebuild kit. As far as I can tell that is simply a 360 thrust bearing and better oil seal. I'm not a mechanic but from reading a few threads this seems to be what people refer to as a hybrid turbo.
My question is this..... I also have a 62 trim compressor wheel so I was wondering if I put that on it will it make a difference and what would the turbo be described as. There seems to be nick names for t28's with upgraded bits so I wondered if a hybrid with a 62 trim is something other people have done.

Hi djmobi, the 62 trim would make a decent difference to performance for the turbo. There is some ambiguity around specs but this could loosely be described as a Hybrid S2 if you were referring to the FC Performance dyno table. With supporting modifications you could expect to be above 300bhp where as the standard trim would be circa 260bhp.

Hi thanks for the replies. I'm glad to hear the 62 trim turbo would make a difference. As I will need to get the housing machined to fit the new compressor wheel I dont want to do it unless it makes a difference. KJ, I bought the compressor wheel and rebuild kit from Turbo Rebuilds so I am planning on getting them to balance it.....only thing I'm struggling with is where to get the housing machined or buy an aftermarket housing that will work.
Any pointers would be appreciated

I've got a stage 2 hybrid turbo which has an OE 20VT housing with standard T28 exhaust turbine, adapted snail on the compressor side to take a 55trim compressor wheel, mapped to 300BHP with stock SMIC

62 trim is not too big for the stock housing. It's from the same series as the original.
The GT28 series turbos use a TO4B series cover. It would be prudent to check it fits a t28 backplate.

My understanding is that the 50trim that comes with the turbo has a roughly 42mm inducer whilst the 62 trim has a 47mm. As the standard 50 trim compressor wheel is virtually touching the housing surely there is no way the 62 will fit wihtout machine the housing.
The diamter of the wheel is the same and this wheel is designed for the T28 so I dot expect any issues with the backplate.
KJ - will that housing just fit onto the T28?

I think the 60mm is the bottom measurement of the wheel. My wheel is 60mm diamter at the bottom like all T28 wheels with a 62 trim so I think the housing will suit the wheel, I was more concerned about whether the housing will fit the back plate as Scuderia said.
