I didn't want to ruin someone else's thread by posting this in it, so thought I'd start a new thread: Excellent, well done My MOT bloke has always been ok too, but am sad to say that I won't even be taking mine for an MOT this year How come T ? It's completely rotten underneath Rear chassis, above the fuel tank, sills, front footwells, front inner wings, etc, etc That, coupled with the extensive lacquer peel on the roof and bootlid, the criminal damage/scratches along the drivers side and things like a cambelt being due, etc., then it's not viable or safe to keep it on the road much longer I knew the rot/rust was getting bad, but didn't realise the extent until it went into the garage for a couple of jobs last week and I asked them to check it out. My MOT bloke has been very good, especially the last couple of years, but I can't ask him to risk his license to enable me to keep my Coupe on the road any longer Coupes have gone up in value, so can't afford another, so before November this year, my 10 years of owning my Coupe will come to an end Started coming to terms with this last week, but still gutted and will be hard to imagine my life without a Coupe now. I'm probably one of the few left that still uses it every day, still loves it as much as the first day I bought it, hasn't got rid of it due to family, etc As I've been on here a few years and owned my Coupe for 10 years, I feel that for those who are interested, I should let you know that this will be the last year of my Coupe being on the road I can't afford to fix it (it would run into thousands and I can't afford that) and I can't afford to buy another Coupe. With my budget, I wouldn't expect much more from a Coupe than what I already have, so not viable to buy another. So, 10 happy years of owning my Coupe on 1st July, but it will be off the road before November (when the MOT is due). Will probably keep it as a driveway ornament for a while afterwards until it gets scrapped Gutted and devastated just don't describe how I really feel. I feel I'm losing one of the family

You could always get an na?? At least it's still a coupe even if it's not a turbo. But if your engine is good then it could become one......
Sad news T, you, carlt and porkypaul were the first 3 owners I ever met, you're the last one here! Hope you find a solution!

I know how you feel like when my first one turned out to be more rotten than I thought. Me and the missus were gutted. We were going to get t shirts printed saying " We don't want a normal car" We couldn't afford to get another, but a mate had come into some money so we borrowed a couple of grand at £100 a month interest free payback. All payed now. Just an idea. There must be a way!!

Sorry to hear that the Coupe is coming to the end of its useful life. When I bought mine in '97, I thought I would keep it forever and generally looked after it without going over the top. But rust has set in now and it will cost a lot to properly sort it, even though there are no structural problems yet. Bodywork cost a lot here and no one wants an N.A What about looking out for a solid donor car and swap over your good parts, or sell the good parts and buy another coupe?

Whenever I have seen a post from you I have looked at your sig and been jealous of how good your coupe looks. When I first started looking into coupes, joined this club and bought my first one, probably around 10 years ago now, I remember not being a fan of sprint blue until I saw a picture of yours.
I hope something works out for you.

If you've got the space to store it you could break it for parts on here/ebay and by end of the year would probably have made enough to buy another one. Then move any remaining good bits to the "new" one and you'd be set for next year.

Hi Theresa, I'm really sorry to hear your sad news and find myself racking my brain, wanting to find you a solution. Your dedication to the car, the club and fellow owners over the years, has been amazing. I'm sure that your efforts for the club have at times, felt like a thankless task, but the other responses on here prove otherwise. Some good suggestions have been made and unless you have time and facilities to break and sell off the parts, maybe you could consider keeping it for a bit, to see what opportunities turn up in future. After all, a Scrappy will only give £100-200 max, I guess. With the values rising, as you pointed out, even rotten cars may soon be worth repairing/restoring. Or what about we all have a club whip-round to help with a repair fund? If enough of us gave, say £10-20, you'd soon get there. This wouldn't be charity, by the way, but a reflection of the appreciation other club members have for you. To put my money where my mouth is, I'll pledge £50 towards repairs.

The club should have a car for shows and events. Someone responsible would have to look after it of course.

I've spent many hours of my life in T's company in several countries and the likes of MCMike, PETEP, Barnacle, Countrycruising et al will know what a great person T is as well as great fun and a real friend. It's probably true that she'd give you her last penny if you were in trouble, although don't dare ask for her last Fosters or last fag!! She encouraged me to get my Plus fixed when everyone else thought I should give up and I'm grateful to her for that amongst many other things such as organising endless coupé meets. Her dedication to this club and it's members has never waned and she's a true treasure. I'm so sad about the car as it was her real passion and love along with Fosters and fags. She works hard (2 jobs) looks after her kids and grand-kids and actually deserves some good luck. I too pledge £50 towards the T fund but in my heart I feel she'll refuse such offers as she'd be mortified at the thought - I hope I'm wrong! T, please stick around and lets see what happens - and thanks for the treasure chest of great memories

Pete, thanks for putting this thought into the appropriate words, more than I was able to do. Band-wagon here I come, and with pleasure I'll chip in £30 - as said the hardest part of this will be for T to contemplate the suggestion. T, I've met you several times at Carlisle and though I don't know you as well as some folk on here I always enjoyed your company and wondered, in your busy life multi-jobbing, whether you were due a break..... Maybe this is the one

Well done guys! That's £150 pledged in under an hour! May I remind you. A show of appreciation and most definitely not charity. Everyone deserves a break; especially someone as selfless as Theresa. Maybe this is the route to go. Whatever, we have to keep you in a Coupé. Hell, if I could afford it I'd buy you one myself. Mrs Pigman might have something to say on that.
