My brother had one at about 295 and I'd say it was low 5's (5.3?). The coupes strong point is not setting off, more pulling from moving - but I'm sure you know this already.

I guess it would also depend on your suspension set ups to how your power is going down.

Has anyone actually timed their modified coupe?

I've got a Racelogic Performance box and have timed a few mid range pulls. Off the line isn't really advisable on the public highway though... 60 will be around 5 for me, 100 around 10. If you have a dyno plot for this 300bhp coop, I can run it through the calculator if you'd like? Pretty accurate. Tyres will make a huge difference to 0-60mph though.

Thanks Trappy. Don't have the actual coupe yet, but will have most things in place to make such power if not a little more.... Just need fitting at some point

If it is of any help, when some of us went to York Raceway a while back after an AGM meeting to a few runs on the drag strip. They had timing for 0 - 60 in one of the lanes. I managed 5.5, but don't think running the FK suspension at the time helped, as we all know it is a bit cack

Mine was measured at 313bhp on the Surrey Rolling Road a few years ago and it doesn't feel 5.5 fast !

You'd be better off with an app to do the logging on your phone...

I think that regardless of power (once you are over 300BHP) in a coupe you'll be hard pushed to go under 5.5 unless you are running sticky / drag tyres that are nice and warm and get a very good launch...

I have a mate (who drives a BMW and knows NOTHING about cars) who is obsessed by 'bhp' figures.

I've given up trying to explain its the Nm torque figures that make the difference, especially if you seek faster starts.

I got another car recently and was surprised to find myself admitting after a couple of weeks that I didn't know what the 'performance' figures for the car were. I know 'all about' the engine and chassis though, and picked it accordingly.

This question was not about obsession and pub talk (though I understand what you mean) I am trying to gauge what difference it makes as I know what a standard car feels like doing the sprint. I am quite excited about the difference in how she will power away on acceleration ...

My most recent Coupe was running at 300bhp, and I'd say mid 5 seconds 0-60 felt like it would be a reasonable estimate, but as already mentioned on here almost completely pointless as a stat due to its slow launch off the line (comparatively speaking). A totally different beast from a rolling start, albeit still having to factor in that slight delay for the turbo to spool up (the Coupe I had before that one was much better in this respect, I spent a lot more time sorting out the turbo setup and suspension, but even that one would've struggled to get into the low 5's for 0-60).

Interestingly when I had the Monaro (dyno'd at 540bhp) I never felt it would be a great drag car, and it always seemed bizarre on the Monaro forum that there were cars running ridiculous power (700+ bhp) that still couldn't get much below 13 seconds on a 1/4 mile, but it was all due to how they put the power down. I don't think it would've mattered how much horsepower you put in one, any more than about 500 odd just seemed to be a complete waste.

My Porsche Turbo put the power down exceptionally. It was the 250 bhp version and it felt much faster than a coupe with similar bhp. I think being so low to the ground added to the affect of speed on the mind..

A few degrees extra caster significantly improves traction. You may be able to source eccentric top mounts to provide this.

It's a good point that it's as much about the sensation of speed. There's no doubt that the M5 I have at the moment is a quick car, and it's not that it feels slow or anything (it does feel pretty rapid) but it's almost always travelling quicker than it feels like it is, probably because it's a big, heavy, comfortable saloon car. In your head you think "I'm doing about 70", then you look at the head up display and get a bit of a shock Certainly the smaller and, especially, lower a car is, the faster it feels like it's going.

I did 60 in 5.5, and 100 in 11.9 a few years ago (with 297bhp) using a Racelogic Performance Box. Will have another go sometime, but really struggle to launch well with a more aggressive clutch!

you should see mid 5's depending on your tyres, im roughly doing 5.9/6.0 secs to 60 in my 270bhp coupe with some midrange tyres, but they are certainly not made for 0-60 runs, id say with r888's or ad08r id be taking atleast 0.2 secs off, but its only a number i guess, the coupe holds its own 40mph+ onwards

If you had a 20VT 300bhp AWD Coupe, with totally standard tyres, what do you reckon the time would be then?

Difficult as you've just changed tonnes of factors. Same final gearing I'd guess high 4 (4.8) - 1St in the coupe is a loonngggg gear to take advantage of its torque and as such you're never going to be super quick until you double the power then I'd expect mid 3's.
But it's all down to gearing, power delivery, suspension, tyres.... And the driver of course.
To be honest 0-60 is pretty meaningless in modern cars as many are set up for just that stat. Real power comes in 50 mph plus, and for the big boys 100+!

It'll feel a lot quicker and exciting as it fights for traction on boost in 1st and depending on tyres 2nd.... you'll end up with around 5.5 I would have thought.
