I'm preparing 20vt engine for my trackday 156's, and have cheap 2,4 Stilo head, skimmed and portmatched ready to be fitted. Read some post before that both heads are same(Countrycruising's post i guess), and only valves differs. My question is if i use oem headgasket, and fit 2,4 head, without grinding some meat from the piston's valve "seat", will i have any fears that valve can meet the piston. I know that valves must be changed from N/A head to turbo one, but i'll take this risk. Any experience on this?

Well, Stilo headgasket is 0.5mm thicker while OE Coupe is 1.8mm...... Guess i'll must trial fit the head to see if there is any problems when rotating the crank.....

which in turn is down to your block and piston/rod choice. All stock block, pistons/rods.....guess that Stilo head have same combustion volume as 20VT head!!!???

If i remmember correctly, volume is different on 2.4 NA head or late 2.0 NA . Bigger than 20vt. But not measured Stilo yet.
I dont think that few tenth of gasket will safe you on piston/valve clearance. Also be careful with variable intake valve timing, it comes to play. Im not engine builder, but we/he decided to tricky grind the valve grooves on woessner pistons and using std 20vt mls gasket.

Stilo head is from "new generation" engine, which had thin metal gaskets (around 0,37-0,49mm)- simmilar to AR TS CF3 STilo 1.8 etc..., old generation - like coupe 20V NA, CF2 and older TS had standart gasket with thickness around 1,6mm.
Only difference on these stock engines was compression height of pistons - which gowern where the piston stops at TDC. if its protrude ower the block ("CF2 engines"), then you should use standart 20VT thick gasket, if they are about 0,6-0,8mm deepened in the block ("CF3 engines"), you can use thin metal gasket - but calculate the compression ratio first.. 1mm difference could change the CR dramatically...

Dont know about stock pistons, but on Accralite pistons I needed to grind the pistons to expand the "slot" for valves. If not, piston will hit the valve. I'll go with original 20vt headgasket, with thinner stilo's headgasket it could be problem with piston to valve clearence. Forget it with high lift cams. Also, stilo head have smaller chamber, but this is really small improvement, almost unnoticeable. One more difference, stilo head dont have a hole and thread for coolant temp sensor, there is few types of thermostat with plug where you can fit coolant temp sensor, or drill the head. Not a big problem, just don't forget it

What benefits can I expect if I use the Stilo head. What additional parts I would need to buy? Common thinking is that exhaust valves wont handle the heat because is from N/A car. As i mention before i will take the gamble and will use the Stilo head without changing exh. valves. Heard different opinions about if combustion chamber is different or not. Have 20vt and Stilo head on same table and if i have time i'll compare it. Stilo intake valves are 3,5mm bigger, also and intake and exhaust head ports......Port matching must be done at least..... For sure i miss something.

I'll stick with OE Coupe gasket. 0.8 is difference, but not a big one.

I'll stick with OE Coupe gasket. 0.8 is difference, but not a big one. I saw on http://www.bildelaronline24.se/ (webstore carparts) that 2.4 Stilo gasket has 84 mm diameter and 2.0 Coupé gasket has 83 mm diameter. Will this cause any issue?

A little info from first hand . I use stilo head from 2 years and no problems at all for now. The combustion chamber is smaller compared to the 20vt or early 20v N/A ( note the factory CR is 10.5:1 ) I have measured it a long time ago but it was around 3cc smaller. I use it with a standard 20vt gasket. The car run 1 year at 500hp with a std fuel and 1 year with Ethanol on 570 hp and no problems with valves or whatsoever. The differences are in the in. valves and ports and ex. valves and ports ( on stilo head are noticeably bigger) @Ferrarist if you have some question... you know my phone

I was told that all Bravo and Kappa VIS 20V models heads are same as Stilo.

Hi mate, There is no differences in the head except the valves and the ports as we already said. Also small difference in combustion chamber. You need a std 20vt head gasket ( 1.6 ~ 1.8mm thick ) . You will also need to instal 20vt camshafts because as far as I know they are the biggest in all 20v fiat engines. Make sure you checked if there is a temp sensor hole in the Stilo head if not you can use a thermostat with an extra hole for sensor on it. The exhaust valves are not that heat resistant as the one in 20vt heads but... i am sure you won't have problems with them. Also a good info to know... all fiat/lancia 20v VIS heads are the same as Stilo ( bigger valves, ports etc. )
