Legend has it, that a certain FCCUK member had a coupe that could out-run and out accelerate every car on the road!

Some say it was nuclear powered!
Some say he had a 'magic' 3rd gear!

All we know is, he's called Wellformed bow

This is how it should have come out of Torino!

I once heard that this Coupe managed to move faster than the speed of light and that by doing so it went back in time to when Fiat and Chris Bangle were designing the Coupe.

Upon seeing the Portofino Blue paintwork of this Coupe they decided to launch the Coupe in Portofino Blue as well.

This meant that upon launch the Coupe came in red, yellow and a previously unseen colour of Portofino Blue.

However, the world was not ready for such a colour that was so unique and ahead of its time and so they had to delay it until a few years later.

Regarding the disappearance of this Coupe, I've heard that it is currently stuck in the past, unable to hit faster than light speed, due to Shell V-Power not existing yet.

I have left a few BMW's, Audi's and VW's.

I have been embarrassed in the wet a couple of times (1st is so fierce when the turbo comes in, how do you not light up the front wheels?)

In the dry I still short shift a bit into second, vs Audi's they normally make a car length or two because of this but when second starts its charge it is hard not to run into the back of them ^^

I overtook a Porche the otherday on the motorway, when I looked down at my speedo I was very surprised at the speed I was doing...

I fear for my driving licence sick 20vt is too much fun...

I heard (from my friendly neighbourhood time lord) that the particular coupe mentioned was stuck near a black hole called Milton Keynes where time is slower. A normal fill up with super unleaded takes 6 months in earth time.

Anyway. The fastest coupe as everybody knows is an NA due to the vast weight saving having no need for a turbo, intercooler or other enormous add-ons. Mine are well known for thrashing other cars even when standing still.

Might I take this opportunity to wish all the readers of this thread a happy and prosperous new year, and remind then about the forum policy on 'VS' threads?

i.e. don't post 'vs' threads.

Keep it light, folks, and don't post on-the-road comparisons, thanks.

Coupes are more than capable of keeping almost anything on their toes, but traction in first whilst it's anything less than dry is a real stumbling block.

On the road sticking to speed limits I have used second to get ahead of most hot hatches, my neighbours m3 also was shocked how fast it hits 60, but personally anything above national speed limits are more a question of bottle over performance. (On a side note the m3 then proceeded to leave me for dead but he commented he didn't shake me until 60/65 and he's running near 380bhp)

Also I think due to past comparisons the "vs" threads are no longer accepted, unless maybe if it's for buying advice or for things other than what you can lose your license in quicker.

The coupe is always going to struggle for traction in 1st and possibly 2nd gear, that's where most of competition will pull away from you as most other performance cars are RWD so have the traction advantage. Magical 3rd gear is where the coupe shines, light weight and lots of torque is a winning combination.
I'm currently in possession of a FWD Scirocco R which is very similar in its power delivery to a superspool turbo'd coupe and also struggles with traction in 1st. I also have an 4WD RS5 which is completely different in its power delivery, it is linear from 3000 to 8200rpm which feels unusual when you are used to a turbo'd engines torque delivery but it is an incredibly capable car and would pull away from the Scirocco in the dry or rain (not that we get much of the latter).

I have outperformed...
  • An Alfa GTV 6 - I've had four Adults comfortably in the Coupé.
  • A Ferrari 360 - On a road trip I had to refuel far less frequently.
  • A new VW Scirocco - My tyres were significantly less expensive than those of the VW.
  • A TVR Tuscan - I got a lot more luggage in the Coupé.

    All on the road wink

What? I have beaten an Audi and a VW and a BMW...

I outperformed my brothers Megane RS F1, my seats are dry and my windows work in the correct manor and only when requested.

I just bought a Z4 M Coupe (343bhp) and my Coupe was definately a LOT quicker.

A year ago I was very even with a couple of AMG C-class 2012 cars on a trackday. On the straights. In the bends I was quicker.. Appearently they have something like 485hp. Hard to believe! smile

Mines only a 16v NA but I look amazing going slow.
I did pass a coupe last week a parked 1.
It had Ferrari decals slapped on the Wings, sadly.
Yesterday I found some funny Ferrari type decals with mice on rather than a horse so im going to buy them and when I pass that coupe im sticking them on it.

16NA are the original and best - accept no substitute!

At Bruntingthorpe, I was even with several of the early-version Nissan GT-R, I held off a 911 GT3 (on the straights, anyway), and I slowly crept away from an Audi RS6

I've posted this before, but I left a 911 behind on the Autobahn heading towards Venlo in Germany. At an indicated 150mph he dropped back. In reality I think he saw me bouncing across the joints in what was a concrete stretch of Autobahn, and as the front end was getting lighter on each joint may have been concerned I was about to back flip in front of him.

He may also not have known what I was driving as this was 98, and Coupes were not common in Germany. I did have the pleasure of 3rd gearing a good few Merc and BMWs who deigned to sit on my arse in the outside lane with their left hand indicators on (get over and let me through, in Autobahn speak) smile

Held off???
I'd have thought with your power Nigel you'd have easily taken care of gt3's in a straight line??

He was all over me in the bendy bits, and entered the straight doing at least 20mph faster than I was, so he was right in my slipstream - however, he didn't gain any more ground going down the straight, and we both ended up just shy of 160 (on my clocks)

Looking at the stats, the 997 GT3 is anywhere between 415 and 500bhp - no idea which one I was up against

Given the power to weight ratio of the many modified Coupes on here (including mine) they really are quite the surprise package.
