My Epson DX5000 has finally given up the ghost. All the lights are flashing and I get the service required error message. I've researched ways of cancelling the error, but none of them has worked. It has an excellent scanner, but the printer has always been a bit random. Possibly it didn't like me refilling its cartridges.

Now that I have given myself a good talking to, and I'm braced and ready for the inevitable expense, I find that all-in-one units are, surprisingly, better than single-purpose printers. For example:
