Hi,

I know theres a few linux users on here and wanted to ask which one would be best suited for me.
I am going to install to an old laptop for general day to day use.

Usual net, word processing, pics and really probably some android emulation.
Preference would be a more visual os than basic.

Which linux would deem as suitable with decent driver support for older machines?

All help appreciated

Mint. The current version (17) is a long term version and comes with support for three years, and it includes all the drivers and codecs that the purists sneer at so you can watch videos straight out of the box.

http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php - go for the cinnamon version. You can load it from disc or (easiest) from a 2gb memory stick.

Thank You both, i am now writing this on Linux MInt 17 Cinnamon.

Nice a quick even on a old slow hdd im using and old Lenovo x61s laptop.

Install was a doddle via usb.

All drivers working perfect out the box. Just installing some extra software if possible.

I need to see if i can install printer drivers now.

Some fair few months on and certainly a convert. Just bought a new laptop from amazon and immediately installed mint.

Everything works out of the box without issue.

Works fast and does everything i need it to.

If you guys fancy a change from windows try it.
If you use osx it defiantly is familiar also.
