I know I'm normally the one answering questions on the Scorpion 918U, but this time I have a question or two. First some background: Usually when the alarm goes off it's the interior sensors, so when I park the car away from the house I usually flip the fob switch to ignore the interior sensors (and so get 2 beeps/flashes when setting alarm instead of three).

Except this time when parking the car at my wife's friend's house (whilst we have a house extension going on) I forgot. And the alarm went off, and I hadn't left the keys with the wife's friend. And I was on holiday. The alarm started to go off at 23:30 and continued until the early hours, leaving my wife's friend nervously waiting up in case her neighbours decided to put a brick through the window. Having failed to get hold of us straight away, she called the RAC but by the time they said they would turn up, the noise from the alarm had reduced to a tolerable warble, so it was just left to expire naturally.

So now a week later, having charged the battery which was flat and reset the central locking (and found that the CODE system did not get corrupted as has happended twice in the past) the alarm siren still seems to be feebly warbling when I switch it on, and it doesn't matter if the alarm is armed or disarmed. I haven't tried any "battery disconnect" resets (althouh I have pulled apart the 4 way connector leading to the siren), but I have some questions:

1. Is the alarm supposed to go off continuously until the battery goes flat many hours later? Isn't it supposed to reset after a minute or so?

2. Assuming the siren battery is OK, how long should it take for it to be recharged after going flat?

I will try to read the manual if I can find it...

I would have thought such an experience would have finally convinced you to just ditch the alarm.

The alarm is not supposed to go off continuously and you can be fined by the council if it is doing so. Woking is particularly hot on this http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=87441 as is Runnymede, as I have found out to my delight.

I had a problem with my siren going off randomly for no reason - even when I was driving along. It didn't seem to be related to any sensors and sometimes was linked to long journeys on hot days.

In the end I traced it back to dodgy wiring to the siren - I peeled off all the insulation and the wiring got pretty stiff and dry in places. Replaced it all and then was fine.
