Hello folks,

The clutch in my Alfa is gone - stiff, slipping, crunchy, etc.

It is an 2004 Alfa Romeo 156 1.9 JTD (115bhp).

My mechanic was nearly 100% sure that it`s with a dual-mass flywheel and that needs to be got and done as well until I told him that the clutch kit that arrived was a 3 Pieces one (cover & plate & bearing). If it comes with a bearing dones this not mean that it`s not a dual-flywheel? He told me to find out...

So has anyone ever changed clutch on these cars? Are they with a dual-flywheel or not?

Thanks,
Ivan

Joe changed mine on the 1.9 JTD (150BHP) Bravo - that was a dual mass type (and not cheap!).

The DMF just goes where the clutch plate normally lives and has two moving parts that spin on the same axis and are connected with big springs. The clutch and release bearing go in line with that exactly as a normal clutch does.

Mine needed (well, no point doing all the work and not changing it) a new release servo which is axial, inside the gearbox. I *think* the bearing was integral to that.

If you are in there, and it is a DMF, I'd definitely recommend changing that at the same time as the clutch if you can at all afford it.

Have you stuck your registration number into buypartsby or europarts and seen what comes up? Or asked Alfa?

Hello Neil,

I can`t put my registration number in any of the two as it`s an Irish registration. But when I fill up all the info of the car I get a DMF as well. And It`s only £329.99. irked

So I suppose I have to order that as well as a slave cylinder and get the lot done as you recommend.

I don`t mind but the car has only 55k miles on it. The previous owners must have done some driving... banghead

Mine was replaced at 90k, but the first owner ragged it.

Then the week after the DMF in Anita's Cupra died...
