Not been playing with the Coupe recently, on account at the weekends, I have been trying to prepare my old MTD tractor mower for the Spring! laugh
Nothing like forward planning! Aside from thinking of turning it into a boat, I have purchased new frame parts for the grass collection basket and have been generally cleaning it up. I have also repainted the rear guard plate with some anti rust paint.
The frame parts cost £140 plus I have had an inner tube fitted to one of the front wheels, which kept deflating.

A local lawnmower specialist says it will cost between another £200 and £300 to service! crazy

I believe I should be able to change the oil, spark plug and filters myself for around £30, but am less confident about swapping all of the belts (x3). The belts themselves are very expensive, but aside from an occassional squeely noise, all is working on the tractor mower, as it should.

The mowing "deck" has some corrosion on the inside shield and I have been trying to work out how to get the deck off and sharpen the blade at the same time.
By removing a set of pin clips, etc, taking the deck off seems reasonably straightforward, aside from a large coil spring which is attached to the deck and the rear tractor axle? Not really sure what the spring actually does - any ideas?

The internet showed someone cleverly using a shoe lace to remove and then replace a spring, which looked similiar to mine.
Cheers
