Back in the nineties I was always keen to switch from my Golf GTi to a Corrado. Looking at ebay, they seem to be fetching between £3 and 5k, even with high mileage (over 100k) yet are they really more valuable than the Fiat Coupe?

From what I can tell, Corrados are just as effected by the dreaded tin worm as Coupe's? Is the VR6 engine perhaps less temperamental than say a 20VT? I remember G60 superchargers did not have the best reliability record! I suppose more people would consider a VW than a Fiat, hence the difference in prices?

I see a Golf G60 Rallye most mornings on the way work, they still look cool. The coop must be better built, more reliable etc compared to the Corrado & other 90's coupes as the Fiat coop is the only other 90's coupe I see on the road. Or maybe it's the only coupe I notice. Probably down to the styling

I suspect it is simply the VW factor. Similar to older Fords perhaps?? The Sierra Cosworth is now fetching £20k for a mint one. Same reason people will pay £45k for a VW transporter campervan which has no toilet or shower, when the same money would get you a 6 berth motor home with full sized kitchen ! Sorry if anyone has a VW by the way. I have a Seat, so I love VAG cars. Just not paying the full price ! How many 80's and 90s classic Fiats are there that fetch good money? I know the Barchetta has a good following... but can't think of much else. Punto GT Turbo anyone? I would say it's because Fiat are a budget brand, but that doesn't explain the high residuals of old Ford Capris, Cosworths or Peugeot 205 GTIs for that matter. Probes are supposed to be cheap though... Oh... and lets not mention used Alfas...

No offence taken, we have two VW's at present and have owned nearly double figures starting with a Beetle! I often think what else would peek my interest if ever I swapped the Coupe and a Corrado was always one that got away. I am just surprised they can now fetch around £5k for a decent one, whereas a similar Coupe would only raise less than half that? I guess the good news is for those in they know, they can get a bargain provided they know what they are doing!!!

I must admit I was thinking of a Corrado (VR6 or G60 if I could find one) back when I bought my car in 2001. But then again, I was also thinking of a Calibra too

Funny how nobody ever mentions the MkII Scirocco.
But a nice MkI Storm... Right on both counts Jim!

Cossies are a world away from a corrado! Pedigree, history and all that racing! A cossie is a cult car, infact pre 96 if it has rs in its name and a blue oval you are paying big money to be part of history. Once the fiat coupe was sighted as the Sierra cosworth replacement, shame it never gained the cult status.....

Yes I have the Autocar article which proclaimed the Coupe 20VT as the new Cossie back in 1996. I never liked the look of the original 3 door RS Sierra Cosworths, but the later 4 door saloon was a great "Q" car with four wheel drive as well!

Cossies were reliable too, a friends father had a Sapphire for years, only to upgrade to a low mileage Escort Cossie, they were easy to tune too. Bigger injectors, Upgraded actuator would see 340bhp.
His Escort has been sorned for 8 years now tucked away in his garage...
Sad times.

And I'm sure it's worth more now than he paid for it! Is it an early big turbo one? It was a shame when Ford dropped the whale tail from the escorts.
On the Sierra front, the rs500 would always be my first choice, I love the wheels and the pedigree it gained as a touring car.

Coupe still looks better though Cossie hasn't aged well. Its sad to see as it was my dream car at a young age but wouldn't own one now. Still an eye catching iconic car.

Has anyone on here actually owned a Corrado? How do they compare them to the Coupe?

I haven't owned one but I've drive 2 of them the vr6 and a g60 and I must say there ok just not in the league of the coupe though for power or handling.
As for the Cossie front there prices has done nothing but rise fort he last 5 years. You could buy a ratty Sierra for £2.5k back then and now your lucky to get the same standard for £6k. if you know anyone with one that's part of there forums then just ask about the restoration section and even they will say everyone is doing it at the moment due to saving them and also the value of them going up.
The coupe is in my eyes just starting to come into this stage of its life and prices will start to rise more.

Lets hope so. I admit the Corrado seems a bit dated now, particularly the interior. The Cossie was never really my sort of car (Sapphire aside) but they advanced the performance available to the common man and so deserve to be going up in value.

Has anyone on here actually owned a Corrado? How do they compare them to the Coupe? I owned the vr6 and it was a nice car in its day,god rest its sole. Very nose heavy and handling was god aweful as were the brakes. Had mine for around 3 months, very boring car for my age at the time. Sounded nice, smooth, refined but bloody slow and I owned it after my renault 19 16v which also was slow. One thing I will always remember is the seats were sooooo comfortable. Mate of mine had the G60 which was quick although my punto gt used to keep up with it. One thing the coupe and corrado have in common is they were a huge flop on the forecourt and one that the manufacturers would want to forget. Neither car sold, and wasn't the market at the time for high powered luxury expensive coupes given the competition especially from the much cheaper Japanese import scene at the time. A perfect receipe for a future classic.

Surely it wasn't that bad? one of the things that I've always noticed when looking into these is that the handling is universally praised.
