Just bought a Coupe -- new member from Brazil #1450882

Hello there!

I joined the club to learn more about the Coupé. I have just bought a 1996 2.0 16v N/A model in great condition (I'd say it's in "rare" condition, one owner, only 26k miles).

Even though it's the N/A 2.0 16v (only a handful of Turbo ones were imported in Brazil), it's a full-spec car, with leather seats (immaculate), sunroof, AC, etc...

Right now the car is having some service done (fluids, filters, belts), and I'm also having the chassi underside cleaned and the car polished. Then my mechanic is taking it to "Controlar" (our equivalent of an MOT, but not as strict as the UK one).

Hopefully I'll be driving it later next week.

I'm hoping to learn a lot and contribute with FCCUK with any knowledge I have to share -- detailing tips anyone?

Thanks :-) Pics next week!

Welcome.

Might I ask where in Brazil? We have a couple of members... it's been a few years since I last drove a Coupe in BR!

Hello! :-) I'm from the city of Sao Paulo.

Did you live in Brazil in the past, or did you drive a Coupe while visiting?

I've been recently in England, it's hard to spot a Coupe over there!

Welcome, I have visited SP quite a few times, not sure when you will be able to enjoy driving with all of the traffic frown , however out of town you have some nice roads smile

Welcome, and good luck!

Sounds like a very rare car you have there. I imagine that I will never see her in the flesh, but a few pictures would be nice!

Hello and welcome thumb

Would you happen to know another Coupe owner called Teteus and his red monster?

Sorry, I don't know any other Coupe owners! :-(

I tried joining the Facebook group for the Fiat Coupe Club Brasil, but it's still pending approval...

Mi esposa esta uma carioca - we have a flat in Copacabana where daughter lives with mother in law. The kids were born in Sao Paulo.

I drove at the one and only Brasil meeting of the FCCUK laugh

Hi, my wife's family are from São Paulo, and they've never seen one before! Must be a very rare car out there. Goos luck with it, and enjoy how rare it is. smile

I can also machine that buying one over there commands a far higher price than what they sell for in the UK! laugh

Thanks, everybody.

I just heard from my mechanic, we're having replaced:

- All belts
- All fluids
- All filters
- Oil pan gasket
- Oil switch
- Water "pipe" (he says it's a metal pipe, not a rubber pipe. I've no idea what this is)

Hopefully I'll have the car late next week. I can't wait!

It will be the metal coolant pipe which runs along the back of the engine below the inlet manifold.

We must all do our part for the planet.
I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.

It must be that one, then! Hopefully an easy and cheap fix.

Most parts he ordered until now have been very cheap. That's a relief, because the car wasn't :-P

Welcome from Australia where Coupes are extremely rare also, with all examples being personal imports, mostly from UK and a few from New Zealand where they were sold.

I have found there are a few common parts with the Alfa 156, GTV and Spider from the late 90s. These models were sold here.

You will enjoy it!!!!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

I will take great care of this coupé. In my "garage" I also have a 2003 E46 BMW 325i (full-spec, except for Harman Kardon - mine is the normal 10-speaker Hi-Fi model) and a 2010 Smart Fortwo Passion Turbo.

I really enjoy detailing and caring for my cars, so the Coupe will be no exception.

Here's a picture of my detailing arsenal (minus the extractor and the DA polisher, those aren't pictured):

I don't mean to turn this topic into a "project" topic, but I am very excited to (hopefully) get the car next week.

The mechanic told me today that he is having the backbox replaced, because it's completely rotten.

This car is going to run smoooooothly :-)

maybe consider a nice stainless catback system for added burble if yours is standard

Interesting differences between BR and UK versions of the 16 - if I remember correctly - the engine is detuned slightly to accommodate BR fuel, there's no catalytic converter, and the car is about an inch higher on the suspension.

Oh, and the steering wheel is on the wrong side, but you knew that!

Perhaps in the future, if I can have an inspection-friendly one custom made. If it's too noisy, it won't pass :-(

Correct, brazilian fuel is total garbage. That's why I only fill my cars with premium, because regular fuel is crap.

The car DOES have a catalytic converter, though. Our 2.0 16V has 137bhp, I believe the european model is slightly higher?

And the suspension is indeed higher, correct!
