Hello,

I'm currently looking for a Coupe as a second car and have seen a potentially good one at a decent price. The only concern I have is that it's done 90k on the same clutch. This seems excessive to me (though is a good sign that it's been driven gently). What is the maximum life expectancy on a clutch? It obviously varies on how its been driven, but there must be an absolute ceiling. It's a 97 NA.

Thanks in advance.

My 20v turbo was on the original clutch when I had it changed at ~138k, only changed it then as changing gearbox too so made sense!

That's pretty impressive. Just bought one with 93k that's had a pretty easy life, bodes well.

Iceberg changed mine earlier this year and it was on the original at 80k. It wasn't actually slipping but had become very 'gritty' underfoot and was definately on its way out as I inspected once removed..........

Standard clutch with no mods will get 60-100k miles out of it. Put in a chip or fast spooling turbo and the mileage will be closer to 60k.

The clutch on my 20VT was knackered at 75K

I bought the car at 70k so have no idea how it was driven before.

It wasn't slipping but juddered badly when the car was hot.

Thrust bearing started knocking on mine at around 60K, when old clutch was removed it looked like new. Extremely annoying, all that work over the bloody bearing when the clutch itself was 100%!!!!

My new Coupe is on 82k with original clutch. In fact, only today Rog was saying how it felt like a new clutch although it's the original.

All of my Coupes have been on their original clutches (Portofino 20V 55K, LE 50K, Plus 80K, Scotts 20VT 48K, Burgundy 20V 30K, Sprinty 20VT 82K). They all felt OK to be honest, so it's down to how its driven.

My Integra Type R DC2 had it's original clutch done by Honda at 125K. My Accord Type R is still on it's original clutch at 104K.

In fact, my E30 M3 (now gone) was on it's original 1988 stamped clutch till I changed it in 2010 just because it felt a little heavy!!
