My Scottie is finally finished!! After her ignominious display at the Surrey rolling road event I took her up to Barbz for a bit of fettling. He cured a misfire and fixed various boost leaks, but suggested that to get consistent performance I needed a boost controller. I went for the Gizzmo on personal recommendation (and cost). Barbz fitted this for me last week, and it is a really good piece of kit (as well as looking quite cool in the car). Once one of the preset boost settings is engaged that level of boost is maintained right up to the red line. The acceleration is smooth and epic at the same time, and Scottie is now performing how I expected when she went Stage 3. I'm only using two of the six settings at the moment (one for cruising and one for hooning) but I will have a little play with some other settings when I get the time. Many thanks to Barbz for his help and wisdom (and for supplying me with a few cosmetic bits).

I have been thinking about the Gizzmo for a while now.
Where did you buy it from and how much did you pay.
As above, I would also like to know where you mounted it and see a couple of pics.
Thanks

I had another drive today, and this really is a good piece of kit. Popped her into second gear, and the boost kicked in fully at about 2900rpm, just held and held right up to the line. Both sets of cheeks were well sucked in . I cannot recommend this enough (so far).

Nice one tim That is exactly what i need, as also suggested by barbz, I've had my car back (modded) 3 months now and absolutley loving it more and more each day, also had the car dyno'd for the first time last weekend. I have to say i was impressed with the figures, but over 3 runs there was a little inconsistency in the boost, i have a manual controller atm, and really do need to get round to an ebc. Do you have a picture or link for the gizmo you have please tim? Really glad you've sorted your niggles and enjoying the car

here you go - http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid...0&_from=R40Tim has the gizzmo ms-ibc and i have the gizzmo ibc , both do the same job but tim's one has 2 more presets and can hold more boost but best if you read the spec's on them .

Sorry for the dumb question but........ I can see how the boost is controlled but the fueling is still controlled by the Motech ECU? So with different boost curves, is the fueling controlled by the Motech ECU based on airflow, RPM, etc? Thanks

if i remember right the scramble button only gives you an over boost for a few seconds and not full controll of the ibc .

fueling is controlled by airflow . dont quote me on that but thats how i think it works . Thanks Nismo. I think fueling is based on airflow too. I think that the Motech ECU's question mark is that it doesn't have an input for boost pressure. It derives it from airflow and rpm. So if you have 2 or more boost curves with a standard map is there scope for fueling error? I don't know but if I fitted a stand alone boost controller I'd consider having it mapped as well.

Would it be practical to mount one in the glovebox? I have the ms-ibc (not installed yet) and if i remember correctly it can be operated from the scramble button. Barbz gave me three options regarding placement.... Under the light adjuster switches On top of the steering column (masks a bit of the dashboard) In place of the ashtray (PITA to fit ) I went for the first option. I'm sure you can fit it wherever you want, but I'd want to be able to see it and activate easily from my driving position.

Best ask Barbz for the details, but the device was set on open loop..... I'd sooner have it set and be able to judge if there is a problem rather than the device try to correct any leaks, etc..

I have 5 channels with closed loop and number 6 Open Loop with a Gain of 6 and a Duty of 89.
Dont set your Gain more than 10, or you will get boost creep and apparently put extra stain on clutch and gearbox.
My settings run like this: Channel 1 = 0.6 BAR but Gain is 10, so good spool up Channel 2 = 0.8 BAR Channel 3 = 0.99 BAR Channel 4 = 1.11 BAR Channel 5 = 1.24 BAR Channel 6 = 1.39 BAR Open Loop

Charlie, sounds like you know a lot more about this than I do... I'm just settling down with a nice cold beer and the instruction manual I read a lot and have had mine about 18 months. With a lot of experimentation. Try to use 3rd gear for setting up maximum boost levels or even better 4th, though good luck finding somewhere you can The Channel Selector/Scramble switch is a good one to use, as you can use low channels for first and second gears then up the boost in higher gears. I am tempted to get an Apex- AVCR just for the in gear boost control. Though I think the Gizzmo is slightly more modern in terms of technology.
