This program stooped to a new low in "wheeler dealing" last night with this episode. They picked up a DB7 for £12.5k, spent "£2k" fixing it up, before selling it for £15k. A whole £500 "profit". Nonsensical profit at that.

http://www.discoveryuk.com/web/wheeler-dealers/photos/wheeler-dealers-10-aston-martin-db7/

This took the "expenses to fix" to a whole new level of bull doo-doos. 2 new genuine Aston Martin exhaust manifolds for £250. I phoned them this morning, and was quoted £480 + vat, each.

Regardless of the fact they don't include any labour.

Loved the "free" laser alignment. How much was the kit?

I was spitting venom!!

I love the line "cheapest DB7's now at £16,000". Why sell it to a dealer for £15k then?

Completely pointless program imho.

*Rant ends*

I was amazed to see them get 2 18" 245/40 Toyos for £260, but it seems Camskill do sell them for £130 each.

The cheapness of some of the interior switches was comical. The key looked like it came from an escort.

The car is on PH for £15,500.

I have't seen it yet, I recorded it last night and plan to watch it this afternoon with my grandson who is a huge fan.

That's because they had! Ford wanted Aston to start making a profit for once in their life, and by and large Fords input saved Aston long term.

The episode is a good one. I'm a big fan of wheeler dealers, and take the sale part and summary list with a pinch of salt.

Is it repeated soon? Forgot to set the box.

So when's the Fiat Coupé featuring then? Can't help but think if we were all as familiar with the cars on the show as we are with the Fiat's we'd spot loads wrong. I remember watching the Peugeot 205 one thinking something was off.

Think you're missing the point Dan, it's not about profit, it's about the love of restoring iconic motors! It's a cracking show. In fact half the cars they 'sell' are not sold but production crew pretend to be the buyer. They often end up on ebay. I have the name of the ebay account at home that Paul (Ed's mechanic mate) uses to sell the cars and spares they didn't use. I'll post it on here later.

Coopless!

I have to say the Aston Martin was the most common "Supercar" when visiting central London last weekend, they have certainly managed to rescue the brand... for now.

Out of all the motoring programmes that aren't Top Gear (Fifth Gear, American Hot Rod, Pimp My Ride and some other show which involves a dad and his sons and some other guys working on classic cars, which may or may not be American Hot Rod, or it might actually be motorbikes that they are working on, I don't know) Wheeler Dealers is the best.

Two gripes though...one, the cars they pick are in the dullest colours and two, when are they going to have a Fiat Coupe on the show!?!

I brought Mike Brewer back from Afghan after his little mix up with the Taliban, a Chinook Helicopter, some gunfire and the pilot being shot in the face.
Although at the time he was on a bit of an emotional roller coaster he seemed a really genuine guy who had a passion for cars and a great working relationship with Ed.

I did enjoy watching wheeler dealers (don't get it over here) the repair prices are a load of tosh, but I enjoyed it more for watching Ed doing the restoration than Mike haggling for parts.

Couldn't have a fiat coupe on. It would cost 2 much to fix, Ed would go on a killing rampage mid fix and he wouldn't make a profit. In fact it would probably bankrupt the show. laugh

Don't get me wrong I still love watching it, but the show is becoming a little bit simpler.

Back in the day they would show exactly what was needed to fix something, but now they scoot over some of the detail and show the finished article.

Does anyone else watch Fast N Loud on Discovery? Thats good fun.

Before I go on you must take on board that I'm an old fart!

OK, now we have that out of the way let me offer my critique of the programme. As with many TV programmes nowadays one must question its purpose. I watch the show but purely as an insight into the vehicle they are playing with. Wheeler dealers is offering an idea but the application of it is a farce, and fool on anyone who watches it with any degree of belief. With regard costs, you can often notice new parts fitted to the cars, brakes are common, but they never appear on their calculations. They clearly loose money on almost every car they feature.

It's much like the top gear races. The one car that has won them all is the black Range Rover camera car! There is no challenge, there is no race, it's just another TV competition that isn't really a competition. Yes the camera work is fantastic and the locations are great. So why don't they just ditch the stupid race element and replace all the pointless shots of the two goons on a train, bus, boat with more shots of the cars?

Many people gloss over the failings and errors of such shows and defend them by saying "It's only entertainment". I can appreciate this argument but as almost all motoring shows on TV are like this nowadays am I to accept that we, as a nation, are now so dumb that this is now the accepted level for TV producers to aim?

Gone Audi mad!
