Corridor of Uncertainty
My stepson has expressed a burning and unquenchable desire to buy a second-hand X-box 360 and, in a touching - though utterly misplaced - display of confidence, he seems to think that I can help him in this endeavour. Allegedly, it is possible to buy one of these things for £60, but I have no frame of reference for whether this is feasible or another example of ill-informed 14-year-old tosh.
Any ideas?

It is another example of ill-infromed 14 year old tosh. You could probably find an xbox 360 console by itself for £60 if you look around. However it isn't much good without the cables and controller(s) which would then need to be bought. If you are really lucky you could get an xbox 360 with cables and 1 controller for £100 I reckon, but that may be pushing it even.

Just make sure you get a current generation one - the old ones all die eventually

Apparently, he has now added another £30 to the budget, so £90 in total. It seems you can buy used ones from Game. Can anyone give me tips on what to look for? I'm a bit concerned about the whole "banned from X-box Live" thing...

Should you be able to get over this way, I have one sat in the garage you are more than welcome to pick up and take away, swapped for some signed Kloot merch/ a bottle or 2, natch!

It's one of the "older" ones, but is the later version with the new processor & HDMI(I think, but don't quote me on that)...whose name I forget....I think there is a 20GB hard drive clipped to the top as well.

I don't think the box is to hand, but I have a spare controller and all the cables etc.
If I get half an hour I will venture out in the cold and have a look.

Drop us a PM if you are interested

Yes, you'll get one for £60 or even less but it'll probably be banned from the live online stuff, so if that's important to you then double check that feature first.

£80 delivered from Game, half decent warranty too

Can trade in against it too if you have stuff you don't want

Have you tried CEX, again not necessarily cheap, but you can exchange other crap for it, and it comes with a year's warranty!

You can buy a post-08 'old' xbox for £50. I know this to be fact because I just sold one! They sorted the problems on the later old style. Downside is the noise the fans make. A new style 360 should be easy to find for a £90 budget. Don't be tempted to buy the 4gb version to save a few bob.

Woooo! Déjà vu!
As all parents know perfectly well, bribery is an appalling crime to be condemned, which doubles as an entirely acceptable parenting tool.
Stepson minor understands this perfectly and his price for moving to Spain without making a fuss is... A parrot.

Oh, and a 250GB Xbox 360 S so he can keep in touch with his mates back home. eBay suggests around £80 for a reasonable one, but I've been authorised to go up to £100 if there's a decent bundle of games involved.

Two questions:

1) Oxfordsteve, do you have any more Xboxes you don't want?

2) Anyone know anything about parrots?
