Well The Mrs is working night shifts again and I'm not at work tomorrow so I'll start my evening's TV watching with Top Gear and finish it with the Superbowl (my first Superbowl, incidentally).

I don't expect great things from Top Gear anymore but I still watch on with jealousy at how 2 halfwits and May manage to make a very hood living out of dicking about in exotic motors.

My missus is also on night shift, but I do have to go to work tomorrow (although, my boss is on holiday, so I could work from home, I suppose).

But, anyway, TG for me, and then new Being Human starting tonight as well.

Crazylegs - you really enjoyed Clarkson dicking about on his modified quadbike? Wow, well it would be a funny old world if we were all the same ... and you're obviously very, very different indeed.

Mmmm I was very disappointed with that episode.
Boring and predictable that we've seen many times before.

New ideas needed one thinks.

Sprint blue Aston was nice.

That Aston was very nice best looking Aston since the launch of the DB9.

Brilliant. Worth the licence fee alone first day in work with just the iPad, watching it was just as good as on the laptop. Think the lappy will start gathering dust soon.

The Aston look amazing in that blue.

I didn't like any of the three cars.

Perhaps the Aston would look better in a different colour but I thought it was like every other Aston of the last 10 years but more fussy and with too many trinkets. The Vantage and the Virage are far prettier cars IMO.

As for the episode...meh. We've seen it all before but until we all stop coming back for more they'll continue to roll it out week after week.

ETA: ok, so I've just googled the Vanquish and, in darker colours, it's very pretty. Still just the same as every other Aston though.

Even my usual low expectations for TG didn't prepare me for tonight's episode. Nothing either interesting or funny about it.

The wife's not working next Sunday night, so she'll want to watch Call the midwife instead, and it will probably be better.

Yep - it's a real bummer that my once favourite show is turning into such a predictable affair. The 'laser-plane' section for instance; Seen it all before - must have cost a FORTUNE - got boring very quickly.
I can't believe there was nothing other than the 'roadtrip' and Mick Fleetwood. Surely it must be starting to get a bit embarrassing filling a warehouse with people, just to have them stand around and watch tv.

I suppose they've almost made a rod for their own back with all the daft challenge stuff. If the format went back to 'Car Show' they'd lose all those casual, non-petrolhead viewers. I guess now it's more cash cow than car show.

The best part was the drag racing IMO but it only got a short spot.

The Viper for me (in Scot's Green). For the price of the Lexus Lambo wannabe you could buy a REAL Lambo AND the Viper (and a tank of fuel for both)

I think its a shame they went down the modded cars will just blow up next time route after the drag strip section. They swoon over factory special editions costing £££ yet an average joe does some mods and it will instantly blow up. The "supprise" at being beaten by obvious drag prepped cars was also pointless.

Also not sure how far ahead its filmed but JC "thinking" about city/out of town parking was also the subject of Mike Rutherfords motormouth piece in the previous weeks Sunday Times.

I am a fan of TG but its starting to become a caricature of itself. Its used to be pointless for sake of entertainment, now is just pointless "entertainment".

I think it has been Mr. Beaned (i.e. dumbed down to appeal to a wider audience)

Grip I'd imagine. Aren't special tyres required on a drag strip (I've never been but I'm sure I've read that somewhere).

Quite possibly. Every manufacturer of production cars, from Kia to Koenigsegg, has to compromise on their cars. As well as doing 200mph they've also got to be able to do 2mph in a traffic jam, or mile after mile of 50/60mph, they've got to be capable of going x thousand miles between services, you've got to be able to fill them up with stuff you can buy at any petrol station and they can't really have massive turbo lag, or cam profiles which only work properly on full chat.

Of course, if you're modifying a car to go drag racing then you can wave two fingers at that lot, fit a turbo the size of a dustbin which has to be serviced every 50 miles (to empty the cats/dogs/children out of it) and blow away a £350k supercar.

Not to mention nitrous, race fuel, water injection and no end of other tricks...
