Looked at a 99(V) 20vt and it had an oil pressure/voltage gauge, in my 98(R) 20vt it has a pressure/temp gauge. Which is standard? why would you want to see the battery voltage? curious

Voltage guage replaced oil temp mid way through '98. No idea why...
The Oil temp is far more useful so it is a strange decision to change it.

I use the oil temp as a rough indication of when its safe to start booting the turbo.

The decision to swap the oil temp gauge for a voltmeter is ludicrously stupid, and something I will never understand from the day I bought the Coupe onwards. Surely one of the most useful gauges on any car, let alone a turboed one, let alone an Italian one, let alone a turboed Italian one ?

Agree with Dan, often the water temp will be normal, but it ususlly takes a couple more mins for the oil to get up to temp
It is hard to understand how a cemetery can raise burial rates and blame it on the cost of living

IIRC there is no hole for the sensor in the block on cars without it so retro fitting would be difficult.
Ah, well that answers my question, extra wiring in the loom then.

In bad old days of iron engines the oil pressure gauge was standard. Apparently once the motorways arrived (40yrs ago) drivers started pushing their cars harder and they a) overheated and blew up or b) showed low oil presssure through higher temps and worn shell bearings. So many complaints to dealers that they replaced the gauge with an idiot light..we all know the coupe gauge gives wild pressure swings from high revs to low and hot or cold..same idea to stop the punters bothering the dealers?
