Been offered a 52 plate MG TF with 30,000 miles, a fresh MOT and service for £1,500 from a genuine lady vicar owner.
Would you buy it for a bit of cheap soft top rwd fun?

Not really my style but with good provenance and cheap I though it might be worth a punt?
Could always sell it again in April when convertible prices rise?

It's the right age/mileage for resale so why not I suppose?

They did have with the original head gaskets, but most will have been replaced with the later multi layered metal gasket now. Worth checking the service history for a record of that being done.

Even the multi layered can fail if it's not done properly. Remote thermostat HAS to be in place and the head HAS to have been checked. It's not if it will go, it's WHEN it goes. Engines are cheap to buy but with it being where it is they are a to replace. When the engine is working and with a proper exhaust they are a really nice sounding, revvy machine. As a toy I'd go for it!

An ex bird of mine had one and they're great fun with the top down (fnahh) especially in winter with the heaters up full blast - another issue the car can suffer with is corroded oil cooler pipes i believe, as they run the full length of the car underneath and are therefore prone to going without notice ie engine dead
