Hi All,

Can ANYONE help me - got mostly all I need to start the install, first things being first I attempted to get pos and neg from the battery directly - into 2 splitter boxes (pos and neg) inside the passengers side footwell area.

so ran the posi cable (10 gauge) into the small hole at the back of the bonnect hinge on the passenger side as you look from the front.

undone the passenger plastic wing panel, to get to the lower hole (gromitted also) to feed it through there in an attempt to get it into the area behind the Bosch ECU.

it seemed that I shoved a load of cable through and could not see it anywhere !! - upon closer inspection it appears theres 2 ?? firewall seperations - OR is it that I am being a K-NOB and missing the point that the cable is diverting off in another direction.

even with access to the back of the carpet and the inside of the passengers wing panel, I was still unable to even get a "whiff" of the cable end. not a dickie bird.

Do I need to Drill a hole for these specifically (surely not)
any one got any helpful hints to assist me in running the cables from the engine area into the passengers footwell ??. I'd be super appreciative.

once this stage is done then the rest will be gravy, all inside the cabin / boot.

sorry long one - but needed to explain what I'm trying to do.

thanks chaps.

Bockers,

Thanks fellow. I did EXACTLY what you showed in the pics, looks like I'll be doing it again then. dunno why I was getting NO cable coming down the inside of the cabin area,

ahhhh bugger it. might have been the cable heading more towards the center console instead of the door frame.

I thought it cant be this hard to run a couple of cables through surely. It appears that I was indeed being a K-NOB and should have used the squiggy bit inside the head ( a tad more ).

thanks again chapper.

Isn't 10 gauge to thin for a power cable? I would of said 8 gauge at the absolute min for a power or even an earth cable.
Personally i wouldn't use anything less than 4 gauge i even considered 0 gauge last time but went for 4 gauge due to cost.

I had the same trouble, what you need is 6" long fingers each with 4 knuckles and maybe an extra wrist. If you pull out the first grommet you should be able to see the hole in the second firewall. Then from the footwell side pull out blocks of foam from inside the second firewall and do a James Herriot you should just be able to feel the cable. Also you shouldn't need to run the earth from the battery, earth lead from the amp should be as short as possible. And 10 gauge may be a little thin if your planning a big install. Hope that helps
James

sorry chaps - my bad.....

Well its twice the size of 4 gauge so I guess its 2 gauge, its not the biggest out there but a good whacking cable bigger than the 4 gauge cables that will be run to the units.

as for the Earth situation I did think twice about running earth directly from the battery to all units, as I had always run the earth to a local grounding point - somewhere out of view or the base of a bolt fixing point etc. (well I'll be taking that block back then.

So James Herriot then - get the rubber glove out eh ? urrrrgh 8)

Thanks Jame5 - and (all). for the hints.

I'll have another stab this weekend, once the chimp is in bed and I can work un-interrupted. so there is a double fire wall - I did wonder - I honestly thought for a moment I was going mental, glad to hear its notme then.

weird metal firewall layout. (ah the coupe is special in every way) (Timeyyyyyyyy) if you know southpark you'll know what I mean.

Hi I ran 0 gauge all the way to the boot as i did not want to tackle this project again - I also ended up drilling a 16mm hole right at the bottom behind the head unit on the right hand side of the ECU = that way all my cables would run through that single point - regarding the earth cable - I connected it to the earth point on rear the reversing light on the inside of the boot - it is a 13mm nut - I am running 2 amps and I have not had a problem.

Good luck

Kool thanks chap. I also decided in using the default earth points around the car - as per previous installs of ICE in my old cars.
