Theresa's post about her coop breaking down inspired this one.

There's always been the odd post on here about how reliable/unreliable coops are and I always kept out of them so as not to temp fate! However, in 7 years or so my coop only let me down oncetwice.

I left the office one night and it wouldn't start. Turning the key simply had no effect whatsoever. I thought desperately scary thoughts but a post on here pointed to the battery, and it was correct. New battery fitted the next day and it was fine.

The other time i was driving home and the downpipe snapped. I managed to pull the exhaust off and drive home without it. Then Rog told me I had thrown the cat away adn I had to go back - it was still where i left it smile

It was treated to a clutch and belts shortly after I got it. Serviced at regular intervals by Wigan Paul or myself and had a new clutch and belts last year, along with a few other jobs. Other than that it had 1 set of discs; some brake pads; handbrake cables; wishbones; track rod ends.

The car was a daily driver and I put about 80 thousand miles on it over that time! It was a standard car but I drove it quite hard.

I don't think that's too bad over seven years. As reliable as any car out there IMO.

T's seems to have been the same. So,are there any others out there.

i think Edz has had his for a while with out any problems..

and Nismo.. but his is covered in shiney stuff.

mine has was a reliable car for 3 years till the irst engien went bye bye.

as long as you keep on top of these coupe's, they should last.

the one thing ive learnt and will tell people is either keep it standard OR spend as much as possible to do what you wnat with it, the moment you skim and save - thats when peoblems will arrive!! smile
long live the coupe smile

"sent from my i-phone" laugh

You have some dodgy predictive text going on there???

Mine was ok for about 2 years, this year - nightmare!

Down pipe
cam belt slipped
now clutch is slipping
2* h/brake cables
rear wheel bearing
Track rods
and the list from JBT......

In my first coupe (20VT6) I covered 35000 miles in 4.5 years. Had oil cooler & pipes replaced as precaution by Wigan Paul (who I bought car from). Did oil, plugs, filter changes regularly myself, along with front pads and 1 PAS belt as precaution. All discs and pads were changed at during my use from wear and tear.

Had Paul @ Motormech change aircon belt as I couldn't get the damn pulley's loose! laugh Special tools!!!!

Apart from that a coil spring snapped at about 4 years in, which Wigan Paul also replaced (both sides). It was still driveable though for the day or two I had it before repair.

Car never let me down or failed to start in near 5 years laugh

Lets see how Coupe number 2 does! 1999 Plus! I've only covered 500-1000 miles in 2 months shocked

I drove mine four approx 6 years with very few issues. Only real non maintenance money spent on it was a new clutch just after a fitted a g-tech chip.

It wasn't even that well looked after if I am honest but never failed me.

I have it sitting in my garage SORN'd as it needs a new clucth, Turbo, Discs and has a few dents where non caring poeple have it it.

Been in 2 minds what to do with it as can't afford to get back on the road.

But that is all age related general maintenance stuff.

Would I have another? Hell yer! Just not for a a few years yet.

Seventeen years, 160,000 miles, towed home twice - once for a snapped cambelt, and once a couple of years later when the bottom end ran as a result of the first.

And then thrashed it around Spa with nothing worse than a noisy wheel bearing.

Spent 4 years and 35k miles in my first one and the only time it went wrong was a battery failure, which happened on my drive so no drama there.

Had my current one for six years and 30k miles and it also had a battery go while sitting on the drive and I've run it out of petrol (it doesn't go anywhere near as far with the light on as my first Coupé) and flooded it once.

So coming up to ten years of RAC membership which I've only needed once for the flooded engine and that was my fault!

Not sure anything else I might have owned instead would have been any more reliable than that. smile

I put about 60k on mine over 8 years. Nothing went wrong other than a cracked manifold and leaky oil-cooler pipes which amazingly were covered under the dealer warranty.

I replaced it with an Alfa and in the first 6 months the total cost of repairs on the Alfa exceeds the purchase cost of my coupe in 2003.
